Real median household income remained unchanged between 2002 and 2003 at $43,318
I would of though it would be a lot higher....

they do, they pay most of the taxes...
Money is not like a natural resource, where there is only a fixed amount in the world. That's left-over thinking from when money was backed by gold, which it no longer is. Today, money is an abstract non-tangible creation of human imagination. It's real only because we collectively all think it is. You are free to go out there and earn the right to be a millionaire yourself, should you choose.Originally posted by: SouthPaW1227

No they dont the middle and low class does The rich have loop holes so they dont have to pay much in taxes and why not. Most of the law makers and people in congress are rich and they need to make sure they stay rich and not give to much.
And that $43318 is the combination of both parents working. The wife is working to pay for the babysitter and child care if they have any. And if not they may not be able to afford to have childreen. Lets send more money to africa not here where the rich stay rich and the poor stay poor and can never get out of thier hole to do something with thier lives and be more productive in the US.
So, he's probably an early-20-something. I had jack sh!t when I was that age, yet have turned out pretty damn good now in my early-30's. Rome weren't built in a day.Originally posted by: Red Dawn

That's a load of sh[/b]it. I've gone from growing up living under the poverty level to just recently graduating college. It took a lot of work, but it's possible if you want it.

Anyway, this study is meaningless. 2002-2003 were recession years.
Since there are a lot more millionaires than there used to be, doesn't that mean that the wealth IS being spread around more?Originally posted by: SouthPaW1227

Load of sh1t huh. Well I went from making a living to getting fvcked up and not being able to work anymore. I live in a trailer with 2 of my boys, I am on welfair and my wife makes only $7 an hour and works full time. Because of my disability I couldnt do the same work as before. Also because of my disability IF I was able to find a job where it wasnt moraly wrong who would pay me just to sit there. A home job is out because I live in a trailer with no roon at all and screaming kids all day long. We can only afford one car because fuel is to much and insurance on another car we couldnt afford per month payments NOR to pay it off for the year. Ontop of that IF I got a job it would pay so low we would never be able to pay off the child care for my childreen. Someone to pick up my oldest during school and to watch my youngest all day till one of us got home. Then durring the summer to have someone watch them all day long. Do you think $7 an hour would pay fo rthat when it costs more then $7 an hour to watch two kids?
Now welfair doesnt give you that much. Because my wife is working we dont get any cash and the ammount in food stamps we get is BARLEY enough for a family of 4 to live on and hardly any snacks with just regular food ($300 for a month). After the bills are paid and the extra money we have to use on milk eggs and other things needed during the month there is no money left over from her checks.
Ontop of all of this welfair in Indiana is set up so that if I got any kind of money at all I may have to pay them back for all they gave me yet ONCE again not having the funds to pull me out of my hole because I may have to give them all I got depending on how long they have been giving you support.
So if your wife is barly making enough, you get some money and they take you off the system. The money you had is now gone to pay them back and cant get yourself re-trained or wife trained for a better job so she is still stuck making $7 and with NO assistance at all you are ONCE AGAIN forced to go back on welfair with no chance of ever getting out of your hell hole.
Now I will agree with you that if you are an able body and can do something about your situation there should be no reason. BUT I am not the only one that went from lower midddle class to near homeless because of a disability. THE only way I could ever better myself is if I got some money that got me out of my hole, paid everyone off, and was enough to get me or my wofe reschooled or purchase a house with a office and some money to invest to start an at home job.
So kinda hard when you dont have the means without some outside help (when your in my situation) to better yourself because the system is set up to keep you in the system as long as possable.
I don't see anything in that report that indicates that the median income is base on two salaries. It was based on something like 880,000 households, but that isn't necessarily both people (or more) working.Originally posted by: funboy42

I think some money should be put aside for people in my situation that all of a sudden the wife quickly has to take over and your forced into a near homless situation. Should be set up to get you into a better home, money to support your family till someone can get retrained into a better carrer where they can afford to stay afloat and slowly pay back a portion of what was given to them. This kind of support should be give to only familys liek us. Someone that jsut doesnt want to work, has nothing worng or even cares enough about themselves to do something shouldnt be allowed to take part in the program. But in our case where we were trully stuck with no way of getting out because of our situation and what had happended with a family that needs that kind of help to make a better life because everything would be taken care of while they can focus only on school to better themselves quickly there should be something doen about making that a reality.
For us if I hadnt gotten the lawsuit from workers comp we would be stuck being trailer trash and poor the rest of our lives. Hopefully because the federal government can tax the ammount I got that State of Indiana wont ask for me to repay the welfair money. If they do I am trully screwed big time.
