4400 X2 vs. 4800 X2

I have recently bought 4400 X2 ADV version and since I am having a problem oc-ing (I guess I just got a one that doesn't oc well) I will sell my 4400 X2 and get 4800 X2 ADA version. It's Socket 939 btw

Now, since this is the fastest X2 you can buy for 939 (or isn't?) is ADA version any good? Do they make ADV version of this CPU and if yes, where could I acquirre one? The cheapest I found was US287$ on newegg and zipzoomfly I think and both are boxed ADA versions.

If someone knows of a better deal, please let me know.

The CPU will run on ASUS A8N32 SLI Deluxe and 2x1GB OCZ Platinum XTC with Zalman CNPS9500 LED.

One more quick question. Which thermal grease should I get for this cpu? I see Arctic Silver 5 is pretty good and also they have some ceramique grease, which I am not sure about. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

An opteron would have been your best bet. I have an Opteron 170 OCed from 2.0ghz to 2.75ghz with 1.4v. on my other PC

What are you hoping to get from an x2 4800+ that your x2 4400+ doesn't give you? If you are looking for a major OC or a significant leap in performance, then you'll be disappointed.

Hi there,
I recently upgraded my X2 3800+ to a new X2 4800+. It's the ADA as you mentioned and coems with a wicked HS/Fan that has the same type of colling pipes that I've seen on aftermarket untis. Anyhow I am using my Freezer 64 Pro.

In regards to how it runs -- I am very happy with it. It oc'ed to 2700 mhz (12X225) with a slight boost to volts.. instead of 1.35 it's 1.37 or close to that. It runs rock stable. I know it can do more... as I hit 2800 but with my ram I just keep it at 2700. Anyhow I paid like $330 CAD for it when they started to drop in price and that is still a great deal. I noted improved performance over my original x2 3800 that required 1.4+ to do 2400-2500 so over all the perfomance simply on the fact the new 4800+ is running 200-300 Mhz faster is nice and also the larger cache. Honestly for the money it's a great CPU -- though for me it might have been a more noticable gain from my x2 3800 than your X2 4400.

As for the ADV version, I have no idea. Would be nice but thus far I have not seen any.

Have fun.

4600X2, cache doesn't make much difference so why spend the extra money. I suspect it will OC as well if not better than a 4800X2 (less heat, less transistors to fail).

I had a 4600 and exchanged it to get a 3800 and $100 back. I OCed it to 4600 speeds at stock voltage with headroom left to spare. 4600 are known to be poor OCers, you might as well save your money and get a 3800.
