440BX SMP Question

I have a Compaq AP500 that came with dual 550 MHz PIIIs ( Specs here ). I wanted to juice it up some, but I don't see many CPUs that would fit the bill. Any suggestions?

From what I understand, I can't use two 1.2GHz Celerons in SMP. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

You won't be able to upgrade that system very far, if at all. Proprietary motherboard, proprietary VRM, proprietary BIOS. You won't have BIOS or Voltage support for any of the Coppermine, let alone Tualatin class processors.

At the very best, you may be able to replace the Pentium III 550s with a pair of Slot 1 Pentium III 600s with 512KB of L2 cache (Katmai class). Don't count on it though.

I would have thought that getting 2 fcpga coppermines with SMP compatible slockets like the
asus s370-dl would enable you to upgrade that pc with the slocket voltage set to 1.8V!
