45lb weight loss
Dropped seven pants sizes
Blood-work = no longer require meds
Exercise for fun now = yeah, for fun!!

One year ago this week my doctor told me that if I didn’t make significant health decisions that I’d ring in my 40th birthday with more medical prescriptions than candles on my cake. I’m glad to say that though I do have some non-weight related health issues that may require surgery, the only medical signature I was concerned about getting during my annual physical this year was for medical clearance to get Scuba certified!

Last August weighed in at 203lbs (I’m 5’6&#8221, was in danger of becoming diabetic, had high blood pressure, dangerous cholesterol levels and my eyes were literally exiting their sockets as a result of fatty tissue buildup behind my eyeballs. I got winded walking a quarter mile and I couldn’t sleep through the night without a CPAP machine. I was in a perpetual state of exhaustion because my body was unable to rest even when resting. The list goes on...

Today I am 158lbs, my blood-work is within safe levels, I’ve dropped seven pants sizes, I can sprint a quarter mile, I occasionally use but no longer require a CPAP machine for a good night of rest and I actually enjoy going to the beach. I’m pursuing interests that were little more than a dream just one year ago.

I didn’t jump on a fad diet bandwagon, pledge allegiance to P90X (though I just might do it for fun), or do anything drastic other than commit to small healthy changes over time. Taken as a whole, it’s a significantly different lifestyle, but I chose to make incremental improvements so that nothing I did at any time would send me packing. I’m now six months at my target weight, am not just keeping weight down but building good muscle and I am enjoying, enjoying life!

Yeah, I’m bragging; in a manner of speaking. But moreso I’m posting this here to encourage anyone who may need a nudge, that you simply have to pick some easy goals and achieve them, learn a little bit about your next simple goals and achieve those, keep choosing relatively near reach goals to achieve and build on those goals. One month, three months, six months or a year later you’ll see that you’ve climbed a mountain (so-to-speak) that you would have given up on had you set out to summit in one fell swoop.

Though I didn’t get my motivation or health guidance from this forum, I’ve been reading a lot of the threads here lately (especially the Fat Loss Sticky) and much of what I’ve experienced has been encouraged here. There are some absolutes that simply cannot be ignored. There are also varied health conditions that should receive the benefit of professional guidance. And for some things, there are a whole lotta methods that will get the job done, it’s just a matter of doing it.

So, those of you who know you need to improve your health; pick some simple goals and go after them! Go enjoy some life!

Cheers,
Sketcher

Only way to do it is a life style change.

Which is why I do not subscribe to any of the bulk/cut/weight loss or whatever routines people like to do.

Exercise hard, sleep well, eat less - lose weight

Exercise hard, sleep well, and eat moderately - become perfect for life

Thanks all! Really feels good. Have actually staved off an immediate need for knee surgery as I'm not holding up as much weight. It's fun to cross paths with people who haven't seen me in a while. Perhaps one of the best benefits though is that I can now keep up with my four kids and hot weather doesn't keep me from enjoying time with them outdoors.

great work! I go with my 3 boys hiking 7 miles every Sunday and they still have a lot of energy left while I'm exhausted in bed. don't know where they get all that energy

Thanks again ye appreciators of healthiness and goals achieved!

Decided to NOT buy a riding lawnmower as I already have a nice Honda walk behind and I get some decent cardio if I full on push w/out the drive engaged. Would be nice to drop the mowing time but for this year anyway I'm appreciating the workout.

Now that I'm in pretty good shape, I like that I'm looking FOR opportunities to exercise and sweat as opposed to a year ago avoiding every opportunity to get the heart rate up and sweat. Hooah!

I know a couple people who made a drastic change to achieve a goal and then learned how to change their lifestyle to maintain it; but I know that I couldn't go that route. I think they fought harder than I had to for the same amount of progress, and I am quite comfortable with my lifestyle change whereas they're still struggling in areas.

congratulations!!

It certainly does have a positive effect on one's confidence and attitude! I'm married with four children, so the 'social' aspect for me is somewhat different, though pleasant nonetheless

Congrats on the 35 drop, and don't lament the 'only' 2 pant sizes! My drop just tells you where a lot of my weight was, and I didn't see the waist or Abs benefits until the latter part of my weight exodus. BTW, I'm measuring each inch between size 31-38 because the pants I buy do increment each inch. A friend told me that most brands skip an inch or two between some sizes.

My four (three girls, one boy) are aged 4-9yrs and I don't stand a chance keeping up with them; but I'm able to keep them challenged as long as I've kept my sleep up. Glad that I can at least attempt to keep up now as opposed to giving up before getting started. Doing a weekly hike with the kids is a good idea; mine have been interested in GeoCaching, which takes the mind off the miles and kicks the "adventure" mindset into gear. I kind of have to do that with my younger ones.

Cheers!

Good job - I was at 340 - needed a cpap to sleep. At 275 - I don't use it anymore and feel great. I'm 5 inches or so taller though. . .

Coming up on one year post 45lb weight loss. Have put five pounds lean muscle on, and am pretty comfortable @ 163. ABS starting to show, but not sure if i'm going to push to get ripped or spend my energy on other interests; but, it's nice to have kept the weight off, improve muscle condition, and no longer think of it as a lifestyle change, but a lifestyle.

Anyone thinking about getting healthy but continually putting it off; just make small, consistent changes over time, and you won't have a wagon to fall off of.

Cheers!
