The US consumer shafts themselves by consistently choosing big, gas powered, automatics. Sadly us Canadians are lumped in the same boat, and often get less choice as a result, despite choosing smaller cars, diesels, and manual transmissions far more than the US market does.

If I was in Europe, I'd much rather look for a VW Lupo TDI. Better economy than the Smart, plus a back seat. The stripped down Lupo 3l is the most fuel efficient production car in the world. (90+ MPG or 3l/100Km)

I've seen one driving around where I work last week. I'd totally drive it.

There are TWO cars i actually like....one is the smart (yeah, i lived in Germany and we have 'em there) and one is the Hummer H1. (seriously)

If i'd be really mean i would make fun of you for having a H2, because everyone knows that a H2 (or even better H3) is nothing else than a wannabe Hummer/pseudo SUV for people in the suburbs

j/k

Seriously..i'd drive a smart...just because it's uncool...soooo uncool it's already cool again. I'd definitly drive it in a big city....but then ONLY there. Going on vacation and highway etc. is another story...but that's not what the smart is for.

(Also..i think there are WAY more uncool cars...like Aztek, Prius, or that ugly box-shaped car there , or the PT Cruiser. So smart is not that bad

I personally like it alot but I would never buy one since it cost 12K-14K.
The problem is these cars can't share parts with any other so they have to price them that high and even that, they are not profitable.

I would get one if they were <$8K.
Now why don't they make hybrid Smart cars that get 100mpg.
Now that would be attractive for ~$12K.

I'd LOVE one. I've had a mini replica/model of one sitting on top of my monitor for about 4 years now... right next to a slightly larger scale model of a '63 VW Van (which is what my family had when I was a kid).

I've seen a bunch in Victoria too, I could've sworn they were like $20k CDN or something stupid like that though. And they have no power at all, so if you get one ahead of you they're almost guaranteed to be going pretty slow. I'd personally go with a Toyota over it, the difference in MPG doesn't matter all that much.

sure. long as its safe i would. i don't care what im driving.

and comfortable. my commute is an hour each way.

as far as it being safe, if you happen to get rear ended or in a fender bender with an h2 or similar sized vehicle that would hurt badly

comfort wise it would be interesting as i am 6'1" tall and if i could actually fit in it i might consider it

I think someone would be better off buying a Skoda or Seat. Better looks, more space, and the same MPG

I have a mazda 4-banger that gets 30 in town and 42 on the highway (without A/C). And it doesnt look god-aweful.
It also uses regular internal-combustion engine parts, which are easy to find and replace. I see no reason to turn it in.

0-60mph in *18* seconds??? Hell no! Not to mention it apparently drinks premium...

I'm happy with my Toyota Echo, 0-60mph in 8.8 seconds, 42mpg average driving.

Most crash test ratings put the car up againts itself and a wall. Which doesn't quite equate to the same thing in real life where your chances of hitting another smart car are pretty low.
