I've noticed that too. Some of the local churches have more "fun stuff" going on on weekends. They try to trick people into thinking they're going somewhere to have fun, and then try to indoctrinate them once they get there. Dishonest cults...

Lol. I'm sure they have fun, and it's even more fun than doing the same thing with non-religious attitudes. The light of the lord shines down upon them while they do it. They cry with shame at the frailty of their own bodies and the weakness of their souls. They fill the gaps in themselves with the goodness of God.

I saw one of them proclaim his intention to become a minister of the Lord after such an outing. I asked my sister if he would then be going to school to learn how best to speak God's glory. She said "No, he'll go buy a study bible and just get started". Ah, what a pure thing that is. I'm sure that whatever god says to him will pass unfiltered from his lips without the structure of formal training to stand in it's way. I daresay he doesn't even need to finish high school with such a godly path laid before him.

Its not Americans, its Christians. I just don't understand how people can take the bible literally. Jesus used so many metaphors in his sermons, but people don't take those literally.

It's not just creationism. Vast numbers of people still believe in magic, karma, astrology, homeopathy, ghosts/spirits/communicating with the dead etc. Even educated, secular people.
The computer systems we design have numerous bugs in them, and they're explicitly designed for specific tasks.

For our brains, evolution cobbled together something that resembles a computer system, except its debugging kind of sucks. And there's no tech support line. And any hope of updates or upgrades will only come once the product reverse-engineers itself, and is then able to design its own upgrades.

Given this haphazard design methodology, it stands to reason that there would be numerous bugs in both the hardware and the code.
Hell, even our sleep mode doesn't really work properly. Some of the processor is still active, and random memory locations are periodically accessed, leading to some interesting or bizarre hallucinations. The fun part is, these hallucinations are considered "normal."

...
Religious zealots do not ignore the evidence, they consider the evidence lies from satan, and therefor discard any scientific facts they are presented.
The real best-trick Satan played on humanity: The Bible itself. :awe:

Yeah, homeopathy is awesomely weird if you actually look into the way it works (... works not being a strictly accurate word here, but you know what I mean).
The bit I like is that the water has 'memory ' of the reagents that have been dissolved in it, but as tap water has been around the block a bit it should have an awesome 'memory ' of just about everything already.
This is something that people who believe in that just seem to ignore.
A lot of the water on Earth is ancient. Billions-of-years ancient.
That water's seen some things, maaaaan!

And there are a hell of a lot more toxic things out there than there are beneficial or benign things.

I wonder if that only applies to water? Do some of the quarks in the atoms around us remember their formation in stars? Or the Big Bang? Though I guess the Big Bang would have been the biggest source of anti-dilution in existence, so homeopathy probably didn't work as well back then.

Maybe I'm just retarded but I think we may be overreacting here. The poll said that 46% believe that *humans* were created in within the last 10,000 years. not 46% believe the earth is under 10,000 which would seem reasonable to me to be in uproar over. Let's think about who this 46% can include. It includes the young earthers obviously. But it would seem to also include the creationists who believe in an old earth. It would also seem to include the theistic evolutionists who believe that man did not evolve but everything else did.
Who would 46% not include? it would not include the atheists obviously and it would not include the theistic evolutionists who believe that man did evolve. It would also include a bunch of other groups but I don't feel like thinking about that.
Am I missing something here? Am I not understanding something important? Am I just assuming shit?

Which of the following statements come closest to your views on the origin and development of human beings?

1. Human beings have developed over millions of years from less advanced forms of life, but God guided this process - 32%

2. Human beings have developed over millions of years from less advanced forms of life, but God had no part in this process - 15%

3. God created human beings pretty much in their present form at one time within the last 10,000 years or so - 46%

You reversed #1 and #2. The number that accepts unguided evolution is only 15%

I completely agree, if there was strong evidence countering something I believe strongly in, I may not disregard what I believe straight away, but I'd consider it and reason what I believe against it.

It's weird, but a lot of creationists believe that the scientific paradigm of changing beliefs based on updated evidence is inferior to having one single belief that you stick with, regardless of evidence. To cut a long story short, from my discussions with creationists, they really consider consistency and constancy to be more important than accuracy.

Yeah! Dumb "scientists" are always changing their stories, proving themselves wrong over and over again! Idiots!

How many times has the BIBLE been proven wrong? ZERO!

God: 1
Atheists: 0

Where did this bigger number of 10,000 years come from? As here silly me, I thought Bishop Usher, based on the bible, had the more definitive answer of 6400 years ago and some change.

But all answers come easy to creationists who maintain our all powerful creator god can do anything. As our all powerful creator God demands just one thing from us humans. And that is have unquestioning faith in our creator God. And as a test for arrogant humans who dare to think for themselves, our clever Creator God has planted endless evidence in the earth to suggest the age of the earth is far greater than a mere 10,000 years old.

Meaning those creationists who have abiding faith in GOD will be rewarded when they die and ascend to heaven. As arrogant humans like me who fell into the trap of thinking we can think, will be punished when we die with an eternity of hell fire torture.

God is just testing us, and I flunked.

46% that seems a bit high. Why these people think this is mind boggling .Its all about frequency. In the beginning the Word was with God . Heres alink to help ya out . I go to far.

It is as I told you befor. To gain victory over death you must face your fear and overcome it. Love is and always will be the only answer to these mysteries. In the beginning was the word and the word was with God. What exactly was the lesson of the living word? Love

Well not alot of love there . But this is the reason for the rising frequency in the solar system. Its all about who can master frequency the best in this final battle between Good and Evil . If you preferr Fear vs. Love it works. 2men with hearts filled with love shall overcome fear and in that victory Satin shall be bound by the living word and fear for 1000 years will not be known. That 1000 years has no room in it or the world for fearful people. That means billions will be laid to waste.

And considering what the world is now, with all the misery, conflict, destructive brutality, aggression and so on. Man is still as he was. Is still brutal, violent, aggressive, acquisitive, competitive. And he’s built a society along these lines.”

“What we are trying is to see if we cannot radically bring about the transformation of the mind. Not accept things as they are. But to understand it, to go into it, to examine it, give your heart and your mind, with everything that you have, to find out the way of living differently. But that depends on you and not somebody else. Because in this there is no teacher, no pupil, there’s no leader, there’s no guru, there’s no master, no savior. You yourself are the teacher and the pupil, you’re the master, you’re the guru, you are the leader, you are everything! And to understand is to transform what is.”

The weird part is that the bible doesn't tell us how old the Earth is or how long humans have been around. A bunch of "scholars" came up with this and its made it into the mainstream Christian teaching. The unfortunate side effect of a faith based system is that once you're in the mindset to believe in something that can't be proven true or false, you're susceptible to believing in other stuff that CAN be (and is) proven false. For some people they thing God is leading them in that direction, and for others they can't admit being wrong because it would shatter their self-image.

I think Christianity would be by far more accepted and appreciated by all if ONLY the New Testament leading up to crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus was used as a bible. You base everything on Genesis where you really have no clue who wrote it, when it was written, and how much it changed before getting translated many times and interpreted, and then also focus so much on Paul's opinions who wasn't even a disciple of Jesus, and you end up with the mess we have now.
