What's most shocking to me is that it even comes down to science. If they refute science and scientific inquiry, which they quite clearly do since their beliefs hinge on faith, yet they turn around and use science to disprove science but somehow fail to apply the same logic to their faith.

Thus they're aware that the scientific process works since they're using it to disprove scientific claims that don't jive with their faith-based beliefs, but they'll also reject that it works unless it perfectly aligns itself with findings that are faith based that science can't touch.

So it clearly works and they know that it works... but they don't believe it and don't believe it works?

These kinds of mental gymnastics are trivial when you're talking about religion. This is the same realm in which transubstantiation was imagined. This is the same realm in which Israelis think they are fooling God by paying goyim to do the work on Sundays. We're past marveling at the illogic of it. Time to accept that it is a tiny pocket of insanity. It is necessarily compartmentalized because it can't survive in the real world, but it is insanity nevertheless.
