460 on order

Originally I was going to wait until Q1 and see what Intel brings, how Crysis 2 turns out and possibly build a new rig.

Unfortunately budget doesn't allow and frankly I can't justify getting new rig for 1 game. Gaming industry will need to really improve and maybe late next year I might pull a trigger. There is always a need for more PCs in my household....so no worries there (4 kids, 3 of them boys).

I think I'll be fine for next year. 4870 will go into my 2nd Lan rig (kids PC) and 7900gt oc will go into HTPC so that now we can game on it (which is nice), I usually moved my Gaming rig into living room.

I think I got a pretty sweet deal, although I would've preferred getting 5850 when it was $150 few weeks back....I past up the deal.

So.....do I have to reinstall W7 with the switch from ATI to Nvidia? I'm running W7 Home 64 bit.

Congrats on the upgrade vdub, use that drivercleaner program and then when you go install the nvidia drivers make sure you check that box that says "do a clean install", it takes longer and has an extra reboot or two but then you have confidence you did everything you could, sans a new OS install.

Yea I was going to wait until 560 came out, but I doubt it will be in 150-175 price range. Don't feel like waiting another month either.

Just picked up BF2 for $7 bucks and 7900gt would've had problems...

I'm pretty happy with my current rig. Over 2 years old now and still going strong.

One of the major decision points was Sandy bridge reviews/news. Not much improvement, too much focus into on CPU graphics and price is steep. Not worth it IMO (for now, that can change of course) but I just don't see this upcoming gen of CPU do much for Gaming market (maybe it's me but it's more focused on Business/laptop market if anything).

I don't know , my E8400 is pretty strong, never felt the need to go to quad core.

# of reasons
- cost ($200)
- performance, not many games take advantage of quad core (that I play anyways....perhaps BC2, but I'm already almost maxing that game out with 4870, shouldn't be an issue with 460).

If I'm gonna go quad core it would have to be I750 which means new rig.....

Maybe late next year.

With this card, and possible memory upgrade in the future (although 4gb is fine and DDR2 is STEEP now days).....I think my rig upgrade path is coming to an end. Getting to the point where $$$ would be better spend on new rig.

Your dual is fine for a single 460 IMO. I think you'll be impressed with the gtx 460. They are bad little cards.

You know if you use your money wisely you can pc game for very little money. I picked up that BC2 for $7 too. Last week I picked up Left for Dead 2 for $5. If I could do it over I'd probably would of bought a super cheap Amd dual core and overclock it and have a gtx 460 768mb powered by a 500w power supply and pocket the extra cash.

this one was just for 2nd PC for kids......so we can play together.

Just can't wait until 5 year old reaches the age....2-3 more years. He is already a master of Unreal 3.

I train them early hehe. My other sons are 8 and 9, both have been playing MW2, BC2 etc for over a year now. Just sucks cause in MW2 I have to cover the Text box and they know to keep off screen with all the names (some people have dirty names) hehe.

of course they don't play unsupervised unless it's LAN only.

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm currently using a 8800GT that's I'm borrowing from my friend. I'll overclock my E5200 to 3.2GHz to overcome a bit of the CPU limitation for the GTX 460 I'm planning to buy at the end of the month.

Anyways do your self a fav. go to your bios and up that CPU from 3.0 to 3.6 (assuming you have an aftetrmarket cooler and decent quality ram sticks) its really that simple on the E8400, no other tweaks req.

E8400 @ 3.6GHz
Gigabyte EP45-D3SR
4GB Mushkin Ram (2x2)
EVGA 460GTX 830/4000 (still working on it)
and like 4 hard drives
all in a an AntecDesign Case

I find it interesting that dirty names are a nono but gun/knife violence is full on OK in your house hold. Of course I fully support parents making decision for their own children and am not saying anything wrong/right about you. Just made me think about future for baby mustangs .

It kind of started on accident. I was playing Unreal 2004 3-4 years ago and went to talk to my wife. When I got back my 6 year old son was on shooting (he figured out controls in 2-3 min). When I walked in on him he looked over at me with this scared/innocent look.....:biggrin:

I don't have a problem with them playing shooters, they know what's real/whats not. They enjoy it, I don't think it does any harm and we seem to have great time playing.

Also the fact that they are good kids and do well in school. We only play weekends and when I'm around, so it's not like they have unlimited access. I see no harm in that.

Grats on the purchase, I just got my eVGA 460 in yesterday

It really isn't as loud as people say in my opinion. It has the external exhaust like my older 8800GTS. I'm going to load Modern Warfare 2 and STALKER tonight to see how she runs, right now I only have WoW loaded on my machine.

LOL!! My son is 7 and there is no way he is going to play BFBC2...waaaaay too much cussing in the game for his age, IMO. I already have a potty mouth from working on Wall St so many years and every once in a while, my son will use the f-word in perfect gramatical context, just like Daddy. Then my wife shoots me the evil eye... /facepalm

But I do let him play strategy games... he's pretty good at Defense Grid and he also likes C&C3 Tiberium Wars.

i just bought a 6850 for $155 AR which performance is higher than 460 plus it can overclock like mad

I had issues with E8400 + 460GTX ... lots of stuttering, CPU was spiked, popped in a Q9550 and the game ran rock solid.
