The following will probably step on some toes, but I have to say it...

I'm very skeptical about any apocolypse theory, and I'm sure that my opinions stem from my Orthodox Catholic beliefs. My views on Revelations aren't too favorable mostly due to the fact that we're not even really sure if John even wrote the manuscript (at most I consider the writings to be Apocryphal). Actually, there are as many Theologians that don't believe he wrote it as there are that do. We're just extremely polarized due to our own religious cultural roots and the extensive indoctrination of doom and gloom that's been the bully pulpit of the Protestant (and RC) churches for over 400 years (you can thank Augustine and John Calvin for that).

The one point that I'd like to make is that we aren't worse off (as a society or a species) than we were 600 years ago. In fact, all peoples as a whole (some cultures more than others) have truly shown vast improvements in areas such as morality and ethical behavior (don't believe me? Go check out what European life was like in the early 13th and 14th centuries). The reason why it seems otherwise is our extensive media "machine" that now has the capabilities of tracking down and reporting any and every atrocity that occurs... granted, this isn't neccessarily a bad thing because it can keep us aware of the problems we have but it also causes us to become overwhelmed and feel that things are out of control. If you combine that fact with the reality that our population is growing so quickly you soon come to the realization that not everything is as it seems.

I personally don't believe that God is going to come down and scoop us up when things are at their absolute worst... if that were the case, it would have already happened by now (the Dark Ages were named that for a reason, and not because they didn't have electricity). We as a species were placed here to work out our differences and seek our own salvation (with a lot of help from above). We've been given all the tools we require to turn this world into wonderful place full of hope and happiness. I just wish that people would stop looking to the skies to be rescued and realize that through God's grace and sacrifice (and our own faith) we can change anything.

To sum it up... Even mediocre parents would make their child clean up their room if the child trashed it. I heard quite a bit of that kind of stuff when I was growing up, "You're not going anywhere until you clean your room". I sure wouldn't say to my kid, "Don't worry about the mess you've made. I'll just move you to a new house, a mansion, and you can have anything you want". We as Humans have to take responsibility for the things we do and realize that God loves us and wants us to be perfect. We need to fix the problems we see and stop trying to find an escape... to do otherwise is just being cowardly, not Godly.

Yeah, I read the link luv2chill posted. It explicitly states that the number of earthquakes is not increasing. And they have scientific data to back it up.

The fact that it is religiously inspired is irrelevant. Bad science is bad science, plain and simple.
