I can't seem to overclock this card. Rivatuner and ati's overdrive will crash if i even try to move it up 1mhz. Probably a driver issue.

Did you try ati tray tools? I have one of these on the way and I really don't want to install CCC... does anyone who already has their hands on these know if you can at least modify the fan speed profile in tray tools?

Ohh i can increase the fan speed to 100% no problem. I'm just having an issue with overclocking. It's probably a conflict with my last video card install. No worries vortex. I'll get it straightened out by tonight.

Alright, cool thanks for the info. I just didn't want to run into another overheating nightmare with fans running too slow that happened with some cards in the past.

personally I think $110 too high for this card. 4850 is selling at 90AR this weekend at the egg. gtx250 was selling at 100AR not long ago. this cards needs to be at about 80/85 to be hot seller howadays. not to say it's bad, but the fact is the prices are falling now. I think the best deal was the gtx 260-216 for $155 last week from egg I believe. that's a lot of card for the cash.

actually this one that's onsale at egg isn't bad either: 4870/512 for 140AR

Considering almost everything but the extreme end cards drop price wise like falling rocks after the "initial wave", I don't think it is that much of an issue. These will be well below MSRP in due time, just like almost everything else.

At 100%, does it sound like a vacuum cleaner?

Not at all. Fans on my rad are louder plus the case is closed.

Well you must have 4000 rpm deltas on your case, if you can't hear that little fan at 100%. 4770 fan looks more or less just like 4870's fan and these are ones of the loudest fans human ever created on the face of the earth, when used at full 100%.

4770 in crossfire fighting against GTX 285

It's a romanian review, but it looks pretty good. Crossfire scaling seems amazing with these cards.

http://en.expreview.com/2009/0...sfire-benchmark.html/4

Here are two HD4770s in Crossfire vs HD4890.

The page with two 4770 in crossfire versus one 4770 doesn't load for me.

It's working now. Fantastic scaling of two cards in crossfire. The best I've seen by far. It went over 100% in COD4! How the hell is that?

This is terrible. I want a card with the reference exhaust cooler!
Yeah, ATi's one looks much better than the third party ones.

Yeah, its pretty obvious they are all rolling out of the same contracted assembly line and getting the different labels smacked on them. Wait a bit for other third party coolers (and by then better pricing and rebates).

Does anyone know how these compare to a 3870X2? I'm probably looking to upgrade to a single GPU solution when the next generation of cards is released, but I am wondering how these latest 4-series cards compare.

They also said this card only uses 47 watts under full 3D load. (Plus the die size is actually smaller than the 4670).

I wonder why ATI included a 6-pin Power connector?

The power draw was closer to 50W for the 4770. And once someone decides to overclock the card will probably use much more than that.

Man, those xfire scores are crazy. Why would this thing scale so well in xfire compared to other cards?

so anyone here actually going to buy this? if so please report back and let us know how it is. I am personally waiting for better version of this card, like Toxic or IceQ etc. that tiny cooler on the stock right now are com amd and I really dislike. I think this card deserves better. also the price right now isn't attractive. waiting for it to be cheaper and widely availble.

I was considering getting one as a birthday gift for my brother (who is currently using an 8800GTS 320MB), but the 4850 is faster and cheaper even if it does draw more power. I'm also thinking of getting him the GTS 250 since it simplifies the upgrade (no messing with uninstalling drivers), which also performs a bit better than the 4770 and costs about the same.

Most demanding game he plays is Company of Heroes. I saw someone mention that CoH apparently runs faster on the 4770 than on the 4850. I did see the TechSpot article where that claim was made, but it seems odd. The difference was only major at the lowest tested resolution of 1440x900. ExtremeTech also benched CoH on the 4770, but they didn't include the 4850 in those tests, just the 4830, GTS 250, and 9800GT. One common thing between them was that the GTS 250/9800GTX+ did a fair bit better than the rest. So I might end up getting that one for him if that particular game runs better with nVidia cards.

Catalyst installers can be a pain in the a**. I like ATI drivers a lot but not their installation packages.

Anyone think i could hit 30K with Trifire?

Impressive! From what I've seen so far, these things seem very efficent in Crossfire. One review had these in crossfire averaging 20% faster than an HD4890. You'd have to overclock the HD4890 to its max to keep up (not to mention the 4770 can be overclocked as well).

Two of these are the new HD4850x2! I would think that they would be coming out with a 7440x2 version soon (although it would directly compete with the HD4890)....

Same, waiting for one with a better cooler, Vapor-X version would be nice.

Here is a link to the hexus.net review showing it is faster than the 4850 in CoH. The GTS 250/9800GTX+ is faster, as nVidia cards do seem to run that game better but it is also more expensive. Not sure if I can bring myself to purchase the GTS 250 knowing it is a rebadged 9800GTX+. I don't want to support lame renaming for marketing reasons.

Edit: Here is a good review showing min/max frames. I wish anandtech's reviews would do min/max. I'm assuming that the 4770 would perform similar to the 4850 Toxic.
