I can't seem to overclock this card. Rivatuner and ati's overdrive will crash if i even try to move it up 1mhz. Probably a driver issue.

Did you try ati tray tools? I have one of these on the way and I really don't want to install CCC... does anyone who already has their hands on these know if you can at least modify the fan speed profile in tray tools?

Alright, cool thanks for the info. I just didn't want to run into another overheating nightmare with fans running too slow that happened with some cards in the past.

At 100%, does it sound like a vacuum cleaner?

Looks ATI has another winner on their hands. Great price for those on a budget and fantastic performance as well.
personally I think $110 too high for this card. 4850 is selling at 90AR this weekend at the egg. gtx250 was selling at 100AR not long ago. this cards needs to be at about 80/85 to be hot seller howadays. not to say it's bad, but the fact is the prices are falling now. I think the best deal was the gtx 260-216 for $155 last week from egg I believe. that's a lot of card for the cash.
actually this one that's onsale at egg isn't bad either: 4870/512 for 140AR

Ohh i can increase the fan speed to 100% no problem. I'm just having an issue with overclocking. It's probably a conflict with my last video card install. No worries vortex. I'll get it straightened out by tonight.

Not at all. Fans on my rad are louder plus the case is closed.

It's a romanian review, but it looks pretty good. Crossfire scaling seems amazing with these cards.

Any reviews include the HD3870?
Yeah, ATi's one looks much better than the third party ones.Stoneburner:
This is terrible. I want a card with the reference exhaust cooler!

That Xbit labs review was really complete and thorough.
They also said this card only uses 47 watts under full 3D load. (Plus the die size is actually smaller than the 4670).
I wonder why ATI included a 6-pin Power connector?

so anyone here actually going to buy this? if so please report back and let us know how it is. I am personally waiting for better version of this card, like Toxic or IceQ etc. that tiny cooler on the stock right now are com amd and I really dislike. I think this card deserves better. also the price right now isn't attractive. waiting for it to be cheaper and widely availble.

I was considering getting one as a birthday gift for my brother (who is currently using an 8800GTS 320MB), but the 4850 is faster and cheaper even if it does draw more power. I'm also thinking of getting him the GTS 250 since it simplifies the upgrade (no messing with uninstalling drivers), which also performs a bit better than the 4770 and costs about the same.
Most demanding game he plays is Company of Heroes. I saw someone mention that CoH apparently runs faster on the 4770 than on the 4850. I did see the TechSpot article where that claim was made, but it seems odd. The difference was only major at the lowest tested resolution of 1440x900. ExtremeTech also benched CoH on the 4770, but they didn't include the 4850 in those tests, just the 4830, GTS 250, and 9800GT. One common thing between them was that the GTS 250/9800GTX+ did a fair bit better than the rest. So I might end up getting that one for him if that particular game runs better with nVidia cards.
