Ok... Let's clarify.

48 * 2^-1 * (9+3)

This is the same expression, clearly (9+3) is not raised to the -first power and thus it goes in the numerator.

Now let's imagine that the 2^-1 is something factored out of (9+3)

That would still leave you with 48 * (9/2 +3/2) which is STILL 288.

2 is winning because those here who know math, know that the expression is a not a real expression. Therefore real math folks aren't answering because there is no answer. The folks voting in the poll are people who don't know much.

My guess is that 2 is winning because most people here don't have 288 fingers & toes.

EDIT I voted 288 because I'm a programmer

And so am I, and I voted 2. It's a poorly written expression, but DrPizza is right this time.

I already stated this:

If would be no question be 288 if it was written this way:

48 (9+3) ÷ 2
or
(9+3) 48 ÷ 2

There would be no question it would be 2 if it was written this way:

48/(2(9+3))

Unfortunately for both of us, it wasn't written in any of those alternative ways. Oh, and Hitler was right in that video

Ggd /2 means 2^-1 then multiply/ it's fucking clear as fucking day you are a fbinch of faking retard goddamit!

Edit:
In retrospect it seems clear I've been troled:
Good game half of ATOT, good game.

But that's just it, the lot that somehow "naturally" want to do the multiplication first because it "appears grouped" is wrong. Just because it "appears grouped" doesn't make it ACTUALLY grouped.

The poll confirms my suspicion, that there are roughly 50% stupid people out there, in any group.

Yup, 295 morans. No wonder we've fallen behind China.

Ready for the best proof ever? This is from Bodybuilding.com btw, so please don't try to explain to me why it doesn't work

48/2(9+3)
Pull out the 2
2(24 / (9+3))

2(2) = 4

Lets just forget the rules of math while we're at it.

48/2(9+3)

Add some arbitrary numbers everywhere
4(48)/2(3)(9+3)

Inverse the equation
2(3)(9+3)/4(48)

Inverse it again
[2(3)(9+3)/4(48)]^-1

[(2*3*12)/192]^-1

(72/192)^-1

(0.375)^-1

It is clear that the answer is: 2.66666667

The computer keyboard obviously doesn't allow for proper clarification, but had it been written in paper, what would have been the MOST likely representation. I say it would have looked something like this:

48
-------
2(9+3)

Some said this....

48
-- (9 + 3)
2

that is why you use parenthesis in computer writing as it lacks the clarity of paper

2 is the answer I got. Whether its wrong or not isn't important because my team is winning the poll

What the fucking fuck? Most likely representation?

Are you guys smoking crack? This is math, not some random interpretation.

I swear I'm being trolled by half of this entire board. You can't just make up where numbers go.

Everyone I have asked has immediately said 2. Without even thinking. Like math is an instinct. They just see the numbers and they get 2.
I also asked Rainman. He also said 2.

What a great idea, lets just go off first instincts and not even thinking about stuff!

because it is easier. At first glance it looks like an easy problem with an answer of 2. But once you start to really look at it, it becomes clear you can't just group it all together and divide by 24.
