4870 1gig VS 4850x2

which card would be best for gaming on my 1920x1080 monitor? The 4870 1gb or the 4850x2?
Reasons for each and why it would be better would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

I generally prefer 1 GPU solutions more than 2x GPU. Less microstuttering, so generally smoother since there is less bouncing around of the frame rates... But for pure fps, you'd want to go with 4850 x2, though not all games take advantage of the 2 GPU solution.

I'd say the 4850 X2 as well but....
Keep in mind that you should go with the 4850 X2....be sure to get the 2GB version.
It will give each GPU access to 1GB. With the 1GB version, each GPU only has access to 512MB.

Yeah, i was leaning more towards price performance, and was thinking the single 4870 1gig was better

From what I understand ATI has newer drivers that supports the 4850 x2 much better. Since this test was done three months ago I would love to see an updated version. Right now Sapphire 4870 1gb is 200 and the Sapphire 4850 x2 2gb is 290 on the Egg.

Which seems to be about right in view of price/performance between the two cards. If the 4850 x2 2gb drops another 15-20 dollars I'll definitely be picking it up. Hopefully we will see price drops if the rumored April launch of 4890 happens.

Good heavens, it isn't even close. The question is, does the X2 offer enough of a performance benefit over the 4870 1GB given their respective prices? I would think the X2 has a bit more inherent longevity.
