my idle is 47C load 68 to 72C

Start playing with clock speeds and voltages. My 4870's idling at 35C with 30% fan speed. Load would probably be 75C anyway but it's volt-modded so I like to keep the card cool. Currently I put the card to 45% and it loads at ~60C.

You soldered a 50K pot on it, huh? How far does the core go?

It's actually only a 50 ohm pot (yah, I was surprised when I first read about it as well). At maximum resistance (~49.4ohm) it puts the card at ~1.298V idle and 1.305-1.31V load. This was enough to get the card running stably at 860. I put it up to 1.35V to try for higher, and even with temps <65C it wouldn't stabilize completely at 880 core. If I crank the fan to 100% load temps drop to <55C, and 880 was stable, but I'm not going to run my card's fan that loud for an extra 20MHz . I think these cards probably respond very nicely to vmods with water cooling though .
Keeping the Vregs cool is the secret (well, keeping everything cool helps a lot anyway). My card was rock solid at 820MHz before the vmod, afterward I gained 40MHz with an ~0.035V boost. I just did it because I'd never done a vmod and wanted to try it out .Originally posted by: error8I was tempted to do the volt mod myself, but the 4870 power circuit is already stressed at its limits, so a volt mod could really lower the lifespan of the card. It doesn't matter, mine already hits 830 mhz on stock volts, so I'm pretty happy with it. The GDDR5 on the other hand, overclocks like s***.
If the Twin Turbo's fans can be controlled by RivaTuner then they can probably be controlled by the BIOS as well. I would just use RBE (Radeon BIOS Editor) to edit the fan profile in the BIOS to whatever you want and then flash the card. That way, even at boot-up, the fans will run at your desired speed.Originally posted by: Internets
I have my Accelero TwinTurbo running at 75% immediately from start up. I idle at 47C with the side panel off. I thought perhaps this was a bit high but it is also 79F in my apartment.
I do have one question about RivaTuner. When I start my PC it boots directly to the Windows Login screen until I sign into my user account. Only when I log into my user account does the RivaTuner apply the 75% fan speed to my GPU. So, until I login the GPU sits there with NO fans running on the cooler. Is there a way to have the fans kick on after the post screen?
I would hate for a roommate to turn on my computer and then never login and let my GPU burn with no cooling.

Would running the twin turbo at 75% all the time harm the fans at all?
