Those are some good temps for that speed, I'm sitting at 60-63 idle and 75-80 at full load and yes, this is at 30% fan. I found that 30% is all I can take or it becomes too audible over my case. I do only have two input fans both at ~7v so my airflow is relatively low but I'm still sitting almost 20c higher than you on idle, odd.

At 30% mine idles at 48-49 C and loads at 67 C. Made some Riva Tuner profiles and under load the fan speeds up until 50%, keeping the temperature at a maximum of 58 C. But it is a bit noisy.

i put a CM 12cm fan on the side panel.
the fan speed is low(using 3 pin)
but it drops the temp 2C

I have CM 12cm (9 blades) better airflow, one in the front, and on the back

Start playing with clock speeds and voltages. My 4870's idling at 35C with 30% fan speed. Load would probably be 75C anyway but it's volt-modded so I like to keep the card cool. Currently I put the card to 45% and it loads at ~60C.

You soldered a 50K pot on it, huh? How far does the core go?

My HIS4870 at full load gets to 86C, thats when the fan is also sitting at 30% (Havent bothered with the fan mod, idles at 80C though)

The MSI card Idles anywhere between 50 - 57C (depending on the day) but at 30% fan speed I have limited it to 500mhz (I have setup idle and performance profiles). The bios default fan speed even at idle is like 40% and the card loads to low 70s at that.

It's actually only a 50 ohm pot (yah, I was surprised when I first read about it as well). At maximum resistance (~49.4ohm) it puts the card at ~1.298V idle and 1.305-1.31V load. This was enough to get the card running stably at 860. I put it up to 1.35V to try for higher, and even with temps <65C it wouldn't stabilize completely at 880 core. If I crank the fan to 100% load temps drop to <55C, and 880 was stable, but I'm not going to run my card's fan that loud for an extra 20MHz . I think these cards probably respond very nicely to vmods with water cooling though .

With my new cooler from artic cooling twin turbo at 50% fan speed mine is idle at 44 and load about 60 and its dead silent to boot VRMS's are at 60 idle about 75 load..

I was tempted to do the volt mod myself, but the 4870 power circuit is already stressed at its limits, so a volt mod could really lower the lifespan of the card. It doesn't matter, mine already hits 830 mhz on stock volts, so I'm pretty happy with it. The GDDR5 on the other hand, overclocks like s***.

I have my Accelero TwinTurbo running at 75% immediately from start up. I idle at 47C with the side panel off. I thought perhaps this was a bit high but it is also 79F in my apartment.

I do have one question about RivaTuner. When I start my PC it boots directly to the Windows Login screen until I sign into my user account. Only when I log into my user account does the RivaTuner apply the 75% fan speed to my GPU. So, until I login the GPU sits there with NO fans running on the cooler. Is there a way to have the fans kick on after the post screen?

I would hate for a roommate to turn on my computer and then never login and let my GPU burn with no cooling.

Keeping the Vregs cool is the secret (well, keeping everything cool helps a lot anyway). My card was rock solid at 820MHz before the vmod, afterward I gained 40MHz with an ~0.035V boost. I just did it because I'd never done a vmod and wanted to try it out .

If the Twin Turbo's fans can be controlled by RivaTuner then they can probably be controlled by the BIOS as well. I would just use RBE (Radeon BIOS Editor) to edit the fan profile in the BIOS to whatever you want and then flash the card. That way, even at boot-up, the fans will run at your desired speed.

I have downloaded RBE v1.15 and created a copy of my HD4870 BIOS with GPU-Z v0.2.8. I am currently looking at the 'Fan Settings' tab and can not discern what exactly will set my GPU to spin up fans to 75% right off a cold boot. Any insight?

I think I idle at about 65C and load at 95C. I have an HR-03 on my northbridge that sits up very close to my GPU, probably causing excess heat.

Would running the twin turbo at 75% all the time harm the fans at all?

I would hope not! I think it would be pretty lame for these fans to not be able to work at 75% their total capability.

Anybody know for certain?

lowering clock would get it to 46c
