$49 DVD player at Best Buy - this thing plays EVERYTHING

Mintek 1600 for $49. I can't et over this thing - it playes just about anything that looks like a disk.

I still haven't taken a slow look at quality, so I don't know if this is for everyone. But as the second unit in my home, it's perfect - I traded out an older Apex to get one that plays DVD-R, and this baby just ROCKS.

Still had about 12 at the Indianapolis BB near Washington Square.

I've got this exact model, I returned a pioneer and bought this unit.
It play's dvd-r/rw with no problems.
The quality is not bad for the price.
I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a unit that plays pretty much what you throw at it for an ultra low price.

I think the mintek 1600 v.1 was hackable and v.2 isn't. check out this forum

I really haven't followed the details, but check it out before you buy.

From what I've read, the version 1 was hackable, but recent shipments are not (but might be in the future). HOWEVER, the recent ones support SVCD out of the box, while the 1st ones - the hackable ones - did not. So it's a trade off.

As for supporting Divx, I didn't realize any of them did that. It also doesn't make your coffee, start your car, or make up an excuse for your girlfriend where you were last night. Maybe you shouldn't buy it after all.

Forgot yes indeed I occasionally use divx. Not for Pron or anything...

Could have been cheap media. Maxell seems to work fine in my unit.
Pretty sure it plays SVCD, think I watched one for 20 seconds, the pic quality on anything less than DVD irritates me to no end.

For 50.00 stick it in your bedroom.

I'll second that it's an excellent player. I have it as my main unit and it does play everything I ever put in it. I don't understand what is the big deal with external LCD display? All the track information id readily available onscreen.

i still stick w/ the apex 5131 3-disc changer dvd for 84.99 at bestbuy. easy to hack and even easier to return incase of something wrong. and yes, this apex player does play everything you put in them.

for divx, dream on. i don't think they ever coming out w/ one period. it's would be the end of dvd and copy protection. your best bet is make one yourself using low profile case, but then it will cost a lot more w/ a lot of work too.

while you're at it, why don't you say no xvid/quicktime/dvd-audio/blu-ray support too?

and that KISS 450 - it doesn't support Divx 3 and guess what, it won't read DVD+R/RW either, and it costs more than US$400.
