Any reason you could not buy 3 kits of this and go tri-channel 12GB with a i7 setup? Or do you need to buy the actual triple channel kits?

You can definitely do that. You actually can mix multiple different kits (companies, speeds, etc), just won't run as good as it would if they are same manufacturer/speeds/sizes/etc.

FYI, there is a thread with 2x4 gb kits which would take you to 24 gb ram. Just another option.

I'm setting my sites lower, 12GB should be enough

Ordered this and the $80 LG bluray burner with the software and free disc.

Now I just need GPU, CPU, mobo, and SSD. GPU question will be answered in a few weeks with either a 6970 or 580...

Thanks OP!

Dang I thought I was getting a deal when the ripjaws4gb were $65 a whole week ago.

So I bought another 4 gb at $50. Hello 8gb :whiste: how unexpected you are.

Sweet deal, got 3 sets to split between two builds. I've bought a couple of sets in the past and while it doesn't lite the world on fire, it's good solid stuff. I paid over twice that ($109 I think) earlier this year.

24GB!? Are you hosting facebook?

Hahaha, if I had more disposable money right now I'd get 3x(2x4 gb) kits myself. Unfortunately, an SSD is more important.

I also checked mem use last night, and turns out that I don't even use the 6 gb I have in there now. So, 12 it is (if I add any now which apparently I don't need to lol)

I felt the same way. I wanted to go up to 12 GB, but I noticed I max out, currently, at around 3 GB during load usage. So I bought a monitor instead, so as to game at my girl's place

Double check your shipping. I'm showing eggsaver free shipping by default but UPS 3 day is also free. You want UPS and NOT eggsaver.

I might have to get me one of those BR burners. for $80 its hard to pass up. Although I have no plans to burn blu-ray....maybe I will save the $30 and get the $50 blu-ray drive instead or just have the option of br burning for the future

and for memory: It never hurts to have too much ram, by the time you need more, you will not be able to find it at this price probably. Next year things will use more ram and you will wish you had it.
If you have the money, go for it. If you are on a budget and need other things as well; then you could probably hold off. just my opinion

I already have a similar set of 2x2 Ripjaws but they are rated 7-7-7-24. What are the chances that these would hit those clocks (at stock speed)?

I did the exact same thing. I ordered the same 4gb last week for $65, and I ordered another 4gb for $50.
