Don't forget to circle the price of the ram on the paper work!

Crap! I don't know how I missed that; read the whole thing twice. Guess I was in a bit of a hurry to catch the mailman. Not sure what to do now

Nope. Won't work. If you would have read the rebate fine print, you would have seen:

"Only purchases made by an end-user customer or a commercial business from an authorized HP reseller or HP in the United States, Canada and their territories are valid."

Nice try. Still good RAM for $40 I guess...

This may end up being my worst buy ever. I rushed through the paperwork and so far have realized two big blunders - not making copies, and not circling the price on the invoice. I also received the Samsung chips. I'd like a do-over ;-)

how anal are they going to be about this? i mean, if you've purchased only the ram, there will be only 1 type of item on the invoice, do you have to circle this one item?

Explain the following to a newbie OCer:

I've got the Micron D9 sticks and been trying out the various tweaks and the following is booting up stably:

CPU: 2888.8MHz
Bus Speed: 321MHz

This is what I would expect since I set the CPU Bus Speed to 320MHz in BIOS.

However, I only set the RAM speed to 667MHz yet the Memory tab in CPU-Z states:

Frequency: 401.2MHz
FSBRAM 4:5

This is equivalent to DDR2-800, correct?

Does the RAM frequency scale up with the CPU/Bus speed?

I'd been trying to set RAM to 800MHz and it was failing to boot. If it does scale up with CPU speed, then it would make sense if others aren't getting much more than DDR2-800 and the RAM being set to 800MHz would scale it too far beyond DDR2-800.

Rebate companies want any excuse to reject the paperwork. The often put in little things like that for an excuse to deny the rebate.

Your CPU must have an original FSB of 266 (1066 Quad Pumped). So the ratio of the CPU:Memory is 4:5 or more specifically 266:333

So as you move the the FSB up on the processor it still maintatins that same ratio of 4:5 This is referred to as the memory running asynchonously.

As long as it is stable I would just leave it there. Or, if you want the CPU and memory to run at the same frequency (synchronously) then all you have to do is change the memory speed in the BIOS to DDR2-533 or PC2-5300.

NEED ADVICE...

I have a Dell E510 with a Pentium D 820 (2.8Ghz) with 1Gb RAM (512MB x2).
There are 2 open RAM slots

I checked the BIOS to get the details on the RAM sticks, and this is what it told me: 533Mhz, DDR2 SDRAM, Dual Interleaved, Unbuffered.

If I wanted to double the RAM capacity on my system to 2Gb, do I have to replace the two sticks I have now with two separate 1Gb HP sticks?
Or, can I just add a single 1Gb HP stick in one of the two open slots? Will that adversely affect performance?

Thanks in advance!

You can just stick 1GB HP stick into one of the open two slots; you'll lose dual channel capability, but you shouldn't notice any difference.

So, given my scenario...Capacity > Dual Channel Capability. Got it.

Another Question: Would it be worthwhile to go for 2 sticks of 1Gb HP RAM to give me a total of 3Gb RAM? Seems like an odd number of RAM to have. Will it reap me any benefits?

Thanks!

Woops, forgot to mention this, it's the E6600 (2.4GHz) in the Shuttle SD37P2v2 running BIOS version s211.

i don't get something. they now have over 7000 in stock. wouldn't you think that the price would drop as the supply increased? they were cheaper when they had a lot less modules in stock.

I have seen many people whine about rebates getting shot down because of not circling the price paid as instructed. I doubt you will get your money. I could be wrong but I have seen it many times on these and other forums.

Where are you guys checking your status?

HERE???

I have done 5000 rebates over the last 10 years or so, and to date, I have never circled the purchase price and I have received every rebate except one. That was due to a bankruptcy by the way, and not due to a failure to circle the price.......

Did the "5000" rebates specifically stipulate that you circle the price?

This seems to be a new requirement so that they can refuse to honor rebates submitted by people who cannot follow directions.

I always circle the price and item on the invoice or receipt when submitting rebates. And yes, there are rebates that stipulate this, but most do not.

Most rebates that I have done have the circle the price thing, but I never do it. I am sure we will get our rebates. Regardless of what you guys think, I do not believe that legitimate companies like HP are somehow trying to pad their bottom line by rejecting rebates because of silly crap like not circling the price on the invoice......

If you think about it, circling the price and item is not some attempt to trick you but simply a time saving factor for the rebate employees who have to scan through millions of invoices looking for a specific product.........

**Currently I have about $1000 in outstanding rebates. Out of these 12 or so rebates, 7 of them have stipulations about circling something which I did not do. ALL of them approved and I am just waiting for the checks. If it makes you sleep better at night to circle stuff, feel free. I think your odds of getting a rebate rejected for not circling something are extremely low.**
