still using my XR34... it's only 75hz but it's freesync IPS so it's nice enough for gaming with no tearing.

Does that mean you do not watch movies or TV shows since you would be stuck to 24 frames or 60 interlaced frames?

Going back to 60hz in gaming is a pretty brutal experience. Many games are perfectly fine for 60 fps or are CPU limited, but for the most part, gaming above 120hz is far more enjoyable than 4k60.

This is why it is best to own a 4k60 monitor and a high refresh rate monitor. I use both as I play different games.

I would also prefer to watch tv and movies at a higher frame rate but the option is non existant...

I play PC games on gaming monitors. I watch TV and Movies on my 65" Vizio television and perhaps the odd PS4 game which are limited to 60Hz anyway.

Apples and oranges.

There's no best solution with monitors. I've owned all popular options. Currently own a 49" 4K Freesync 60Hz IPS panel, beautiful image quality until something actually moves on the screen. I also own a 144Hz MG279Q (good balance between image quality and speed but left me lacking in competitive games), an Alienware 240Hz TN panel for competitive gaming (yes 240Hz TN is much better than 144 TN for fast paced games, but IPS is a blurfest compared to TN ), and my favourite monitor is the Samsung CF791 100Hz 34" curved Freesync UWS. This panel provides amazing image quality and the immersion in games like The Witcher 3 or Tomb Raider is beyond words. 100Hz is enough for slower paced games but sucks for competitive gaming.

Each panel provides a different PC experience but to suggest 60Hz (4K or otherwise) is enough for gaming is console peasant talk, sorry.

I’ve owned 27” and 40” 4K monitors and 40” 4K 60hz was the biggest leap forward in immersion since 1920/1200 28” replaced 23”crt. I understand vrr monitors are better and 144hz is better than 60hz but I could never go back to a tiny ‘phone size’ 22-27” monitor again even with hdr and 300hz and 4K. Bigger is better and while I really want OLED 40-48” 144hz HDR with Gsync and Freesync it will take a decade for such monitors to appear. In the meantime I think I prefer an immersive cinematic 40” gaming experience in 4K to a 22-28” 144hz one.

I would agree for the most part except for all the games that are unplayable at 60hz. If you want to be competitive in many shooters,144hz is the only way to go.

This is why I have a 4k display and a high refresh rate display as 60hz is a massive compromise. I certainly hope to see a 40" 4k144hz display soon to dump my tiny monitors

I guess that maybe a reason I prefer 4k 60hz over smaller 120hz+ monitors, I dont play competitive shooters. Mostly slow paced single player games which even then are less than 10% of my PC time. Have owned a couple 27" 120hz monitors over the years and will gladly forgo competitive shooters in favor of my larger screen immersion.

I really want a 4K monitor with HDR, but the current selection isn't good enough. Luckily VESA just released a set of standards for PC monitors, so that should hopefully accelerate the process. It also doesn't help that HDR itself is still evolving, and has different standards either.

Whenever they come out with a 4K Gsync monitor with single digit input lag, HDMI 2.1, HDR10+ and at least 120hz refresh rate that's when I will make the jump. I am definitely not giving up high refresh rates and Gsync. I was a Gsync and high refresh rate monitor holdout for a few years, as I had a really nice Yamakasi 1440p 60Hz monitor with a glossy screen that was just awesome. I didn't get my current 165Hz 1440p Gsync monitor until I bought my Titan Xp, and only because the DVI adaptor the Titan Xp came with was messing with the image signal on the Yamakasi. When I hooked up the new monitor and played a few minutes of Doom, it looked like an entirely new game!

The high refresh rates literally made the game look much better and more detailed, due to less motion blur presumably. Not all games will benefit from high refresh rates as much as Doom, but yeah, it can make a tremendous difference at times.

I'll never comprehend how people love big monitors. For me anything bigger than 24" is unacceptable, I start feeling dizzy and I have to move my head in order to grasp everything that's happening on the screen, even from 1 meter away.

I'm the opposite, I can't understand how people can play on a tiny 24" monitor. I don't play a lot of fast twitch shooters anymore, so I prefer 4k and the 16:9 screen ratio. Maybe it's my age and the fact that I wear reading glasses now, but 24" is too small even if I move it closer. Plus I prefer the sharpness of the images on a 4k display, especially when most of my actual use is browsing the internet and viewing photos etc.

1080P @ 60 here..............am I the only one that doesnt like 4K/1440P? My buddy has a 1440P monitor @ 110hz, and i always turn it down to 1080P when i use it, and jumping between that panel and his 60hz TV doesnt seem any different to me either as far as refresh rate goes. I guess at least I know my GPU's will last a while

I still have both the 4k and x34, so I like to switch between them. If I could choose only 1, of course I'd stick with the X34 with the 100hz refresh.

But....4k looks really good with a 1080ti. You can notice the sharpness, even vs the X34 which is 3440x1440.
