Upgraded to 4K streaming on Netflix. TV sees it as 4K, but my PC still shows the movies as HD. I first ran into posts saying you needed to buy the HEVC Video Extensions from the Windows Store. So, I parted with 99 cents and got it. It didn't change anything. So, after some reading I think it is because I am still running a 2500K. And, I found several sources that claim Netflix needs a 7th gen cpu. But, why does the cpu matter if the gpu can do the decoding? Or, does my RX570 not decode Netflix's 4K streams? It could also be that my monitor, AOC U3277PWQU, doesn't support HDCP 2.2. All I have found is that it supports HDCP, but don't know what version or what port. I am also using the display port if it matters and not HDMI. Is there something that will display what HDCP is currently supported?

You need support for Microsoft PVP - Protected Video Path - a display DRM scheme.

To be specific you need support for PlayReady 3.0. Which is odd, since your RX570 should support that with the latest drivers, since it's Polaris based. What driver are you using?

Minimum requirement for PlayReady 3 is either a Kaby Lake, or newer, if you're using the IGP. Otherwise you need Polaris or newer in the AMD camp, or a 1050 3GB in the 10-series or any newer GPU. Nvidia has this odd memory requirement of 3+GB for the 10-series, so the 1050 2GB and 1030 doesn't cut it, despite being hardware capable.

I think that your CPU is too old, sorry.

The CPU requirement was only for the specific decoder block in Kaby Lakes IGP. Skylake lacked that, so couldn't do the required DRM.

So fortunately, PlayReady support has nothing to do with CPU. F.x. Nvidia cards handle all decoding on the card itself, to avoid having to interact with the rest of the system. Don't know how AMD does it, but could be something similar.

I am running drivers 21.7.2 from 7/22/21, so not that old. I thought maybe the Kaby Lake requirement was just for using the IGP, but I couldn't find a real answer on that. And, that the GPU, RX570 in this case, would just need to support it.

Anyway to test the HDCP 2.2 connection to see if that is the problem? I looked around some last night, but couldn't find it listed anywhere in windows or find a utility online that would tell me.

I found Cyberlink's Ultra HD Blu-ray Advisor. It says my HEVC (GPU) passes, but my HDCP 2.2 (GPU/Display) fails. It also doesn't pass Intel SGX technology or Advanced Protected Audio/Video Path (GPU), but I don't think that is important. I found some old reviews on my monitor and they mention HDMI 2.0 with HDCP 2.2. I am using the display port and it is listed as DisplayPort 1.2. Could it be it only does HDCP 2.2 over HDMI and not DP? I guess I could test that this weekend.

I believe HDCP 2.2 was added with DisplayPort 1.3 or higher, so DP1.2 wouldn't have support.

I looked it up, and you are right. So, that is mostly certainly a problem. I will dig out an HDMI cable and test it in the next day or so and see if that is the only problem. Thanks.

Yeah, though it's not a hard and fast rule, my motherboard for example has HDMI 1.4 and DP 1.2 outputs, and both of them support HDCP 2.2 specifically even though neither the HDMI 1.4 or DP 1.2 specifications require HDCP 2.2 support.

Turned out it was the port. I have to use the HDMI port. Funny think is I also emailed AOC tech support and they said "This model has one HDMI 2.0 port and one DisplayPort 1.2 but it does not supports HDCP 2.2 ." Which to me means the monitor doesn't doesn't support it at all. But, the Netflix app shows Ultra HD 4K when on HDMI. Thanks for help.
