4l60e chevy transmission what to look for?

Hi,

I have a 96 k1500 I use as a work truck that I rely on for my small business. It's experiencing transmission issues (delayed engagement, hard shifting, torque converter vibrations) even after I replaced the shift solenoids.

I pulled a transmission at a bone yard yesterday, a 97 Tahoe, and it's torque converter, the Tahoe appeared to have 136,000 miles on it, my work truck has 330,000 miles.

So this transmission is sitting in my workshop, what do I look for to repair? How do I make as certain as I can that it will work when I do put it in my truck? What are common issues? I've been working on vehicles for almost 20 years I have tools and experience, I just need to hear from an expert.

Tear it down, inspect and replace parts as needed.

I don't follow. Short of opening up the transmission (at which point you might as well rebuild it), I'm not sure what you can learn from an inspection.

I think what I'm trying to say is, without tearing it completely apart, what are common repairs that need to be made? I am waiting for my current transmission to go out then I will put this one in, but it maybe tomorrow so what common things could I do to possibly ensure this transmission functions, what are the common maladies? What should I look for? If that makes sense

Id buy a rebuilt kit and rebuilt it, easier now with it out and on the bench than after you install it and have to pull it again.

There are no common repairs to a 4l60e, you either rebuild it or you don't. Either put it in your truck and rebuild the old one or rebuild that one before putting it in your truck.

I would at least pull the pan (if it has one), clean it and clean or replace the filter.

THAT NAME REMINDS ME OF FORD TRANSMISSIONS THAN GENERAL MOTORS TRANSMISSIONS. IF IT IS A FORD THAN I WONDER IF IT WORKS WITH YOUR CURRENT TRANSMISSION MOUNTS.

I SEARCHED FOR THAT TRANSMISSION ON THE WEB AND I GUESS I AM MORE FAMILIAR WITH OLDER GENERATION TRANSMISSIONS THAN STUFF FROM THE 1990S AND AFTERWARDS.
