REDs have always been more expensive. They're good for hardware raid, but if you're running software raid such as ZFS/unraid/flexraid/snapraid, then you're much better off buying "consumer" grade hard drives.

I was using it for hardware raid in a NAS, but these HGST are also supported in the enclosure. I would rather have the extra space. Hitachi drives have been pretty reliable in my experience.

I've shopped at B&H in person, but never knew about the Kiryas Joel community in Upstate NY. At least, I found it interesting.

I think in today's electronic age, it's easy to forget the human component, and it's refreshing to see the people-centric aspect here. I mean, when I think of Amazon or Newegg or other retailers, it's like a bunch of robot zombies and they are always open all the time 24/7. But don't forget there are people there. Why the hostility?

I suspect it's because B&H is pretty much the camera store. They carry electronics, but they're primarily photography, and they're more-or-less the baseline for the best prices from a reputable shop. Adorama is also pretty good, but doesn't carry quite as much.

Lumping B&H in with "ten thousand other computer stores" is sort of like lumping Newegg or Amazon in with all other online stores.

Me, I don't mind that you posted that they're closed for Rosh Hashanah, but I can see how others would say "who doesn't know that?"

BH is a big NYC based seller. J and R music world is also big . I would say for a one city location these may be the two largest stores in the usa.

BH Photo is orthodox Jewish company that observes jewish holidays. pretty good company top 10 in my pc/camera/electronics list.
