I'm looking to get a new or used SUV to replace my annoyingly-small yet fun-to-drive Camaro Z28. I wanna try to spend under $25,000 but will consider spending more for a 'good deal.'

Features I want:

- 4WD/AWD
- leather seats
- sunroof
- GPS navigation
- V8 (or powerful V6)

So far, I think I want either a used Land Rover Discovery or a new Buick Ranier. What else is there to look at?

I've eliminated the Ford Explorer.. oh ya.. and all 'crossover' vehicles.

I want to find a 'mid-size' SUV and not a large one like a Suburban or Tahoe.

LRs typically have horrrrrrible reliability.

Saab 9-7x? Trailblazer with an upgraded interior.

The Audis are new and the base starts at 40k. The Tourages might bottom out at 28-29 for an '03, but both come with European "reliablity" and costs of maintenance/repairs/ownership.

He said no crossovers and you say Outback? The Commander would be at least 28k and would depreciate worse than a 1 or 2 year old 4Runner, so not a good deal. Probably the closest competition but the 4Runner is better.

I'd say go straight for the Trailblazer, the SS of course.

hows that car treating you?

is it as fast as... ? or does it feel as fast?

you are stupid.

with GM vehicles like this, stop talking about MSRP, and start talking Invoice, minus rebates. so, realistically, 25k.

would say an xterra, but you want leather seats and sunroof, something a real suv like an xterra doesn't offer...nice engine though. 4.0 L 265 hp V6.

I won't resort to personal attacks but

http://www.trailblazerss.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=3093

"I'll get that tomorrow, but here is the best deal I can find on an '07: $33,465 less $1500 rebate = $31,965
Includes $735 destination charge. "

and

"There are still NEW '06 TB-SS's on dealer lots - AWD, NAV, Leather, trying to be sold for $28-29k. Just priced one out last week locally, as a matter of fact (for a friend)."

"I bought mine two days ago and paid exactly $10,000 under the sticker for an '06 Trailblazer SS with AWD. Sticker was 39,425." (=30k)

"The dealer had an '07 2wd on the lot with a sticker of $36,825. With incentives, the dealer would knock off $3,500. There are a lot of similar '07 Trailblazers in the Dallas area and the dealers are all within a $100 on the selling price."

So anyway around 30k, which is still more than OPs 25k, and the depreciation costs sucking still stands. Not a good deal.
Don't forget OP said AWD/4WD and some of these SSs were only 2WD models, AWDs are more.

Well, it could definitely use more power, but what can't?

It really comes down to your wants and needs. Quality wise, the Chevy sucks. It's definitely not a vehicle for dash strokers. However, it's got good pull, it handles reasonably well, and it can tow a good amount for a mid-sized SUV.

i wouldn't trust a Landrover to get me from here to the post office

Toyota 4WDs are bulletproof in my experience, most of the other japanese brands are very good too...

I suggest a Prado myself, big punchy V6, excellent off road, great towing, and exceptionally good NVH levels, the turbodiesel is also excellent

Or if you've got the money, a turbodiesel Landcruiser 100 series would be about as good as they get, tow anything, go anywhere
