Dell has the 4X/2.4X/12X DVD+R/+RW & 16X/10X/32X CD-RW Internal EIDE Drive for Dell Dimension 4500/4550/8200/8250 for 249.95

20% will come off at checkout

plus the 15% coupon in email most of us got yesterday/today.

so :

249.95
-79.98 in discounts
--------
169.97 + Tax

Price should come out to between $170-185 which makes this a hot deal for DVD Burner. Me personally i dont know much about the DVD burners, of if this one is any good. But for no waiting for rebates or pming, IMHO this is a GREAT deal.

GL ALL!

Apparently these are NEC drives. Actually it is ironic that there is another thread going on right now about the NEC OEM drive selling for $163.00 somewhere else (do a search for it). In that thread it was mentioned that Dell customers were having some problems with this drives in Dell machines. Anyway he capitalized 'Dell' to suggest that the issue was most likely with the average Dell customer and not the drive itself. In any case if anything is really wrong with the drive, I'm sure it will be replaced by Dell. I would buy it from Dell and spend the extra $6 to have that piece of mind.

Edit: Well, more than $6 due to taxes.

I just signed up for Del Small Business and chose to receive emails. Is this the correct one? Or should I be a conglomerate(sp?) like Microsoft?

Peace of mind? At Dell? I think you're better off ordering it anywhere but dell if you wanna get it in the next year or ever. Thanks for the deal though docta.

I got the coupon from dell, maybe you have to buy stuff to get it.

No, at least not that I can see. I've been playing with several Dimension configs and I haven't been able to get the 5% and the 15% to play well together. Oh well.

Just a warning:

I had trouble applying a 15% off coupon.

Turns out, the Dell computer system just took off the coupon and assumed I didn't want it.

They e-mailed me a total of 223 or something along those lines. I am in the process of trying to cancel the order.

I know little about DVD formats, but I do know that the +R/RW is the newer format, better? I don't know.

Anyways....just my $.02.

My HP DVD-player/CD-burner drive is getting flakey.....need to replace it soon...soo tempting....

Well, if you feel that way you should from the other thread's deal, because you will save $6 plus roughly $10-$15 in taxes by ordering the NEC from the other place. On the other hand Dell has always been good to me.

I went ahead and bought this since the deal was ending tonight. The only thing is, I want to be sure I'll be able to use it for what I want to be using it for. I want to be able to copy my dvd collection so that the originals don't get scratched. Will I be able to do that? Or will I run into encryption issues? I have been told that I won't be able to copy dvds the same way cds are copied on the fly and such. Is this true? If I am only able to use a dvd burner for greater data storage, then I don't need one. Any info folks?

I do have Nero that I use for burning cds and it seems to have an option for dvds but I am wondering now...

No, a lot of DVDs are double sided. You are going to have to either compromise quality of the dvd or put it on two dvd+rs. And you will need more than Nero.

more than likely mitsumi., they provide some 90% of all Dell's optical drives

mitsumi doesnt really make too many drives now. most of dell's cdrws are made by LG
