5.1 Speakers not working!

I have the X-530 with the Asus A8N-E NF4 (RealTek AC97) and i can only get sound out from the top left, right, center and the subwoofer but cannot get any sound coming out from the two back speakers. I have connected both the back speakers and the front speakers into the subwoofer. I have downloaded the ASUS motherboard driver which came with the audio driver (version 5.10.0.5750). I have configured the speakers to 5.1 surround sound under Sounds and Audio Devices under Speaker Settings: Advanced and Sound playback:advanced. I use the realtek sound manager, games, and other music to check if the sound is being produced through the back speakers.


I do not know what else I have missed and would be VERY thankful for all your help. Thank you!

#1 plug them into the front outputs to make sure they work.

Make sure they are in right plugs

Play something that is encoded in surround sound. (like a game that has an option for 5.1 surround sound)

Most of the time, all the jacks are color-coded so unless you are color-blind (no punk intended) there should be no problem with pluggin in the right one. In a 5.1 sound system, you usually have to plug in 3 jacks the respective output in the back of your computer (providing you have either a sound card or a on-board one)

After that, play a song in iTunes or something. If things still do not work, go to Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices -> (Under Speaker Settings) choose Advanced ... -> 5.1 Surround Sound System.

That should solve the problem.

Well, thanks for all the help but it turns out (damn i'm stupid...spent 2 days searching for the answer before making this thread...) that the the black plug was connected to the black input (side speaker out port), it's supposed to be connected to the gray out put (rear speaker out port)....guess i just rushed in and pluged the plugs thinking the color codes are all right...
