5.25 Drive Bay Vents

Hey all-

I am looking into adding two 5.25 drive bay vents to my case so I cna place an 80mm case fan behind them to suck in air, though I have two questions:

1. Where can I find the drive bay vents?

2. Should I suck air in or blow it out in the front? I really dont have anything BLOWING out, just openings in the back, though I do have an intake fan mounted in a blowhole in the lower side of my case.

Any othe cooling solutions are welcome... I saw a bay cooler (not a HD cooler) at 2cooltek.com which blows OUT the front...

compusa has a antec drive bay fan.It looks vented in the front,has a filter,and three fans attached behind the filter.$14.95(fits in a 5"bay)

I dont think so,the vertical height of a 3.5"drive is too small for most any fan I've seen.Thats the reason the 5.25"drive bays are used.The 3.5"drive would be a good location for a filter,with the fans behind it.

Just go to www.3dcool.com it has both the 5.25 and 3.25 bay slot fans, they are pretty quiet. I have the antec one and the dba rating is high around 50, too loud and its cheaper at onvia.com.

i have a 20mm fan that'd fit in the 3.5 bay i ripped out of a scsi burner , i think it was a dead plextor

damn the 3.25 bay slot fan at www.3dcool.com is an exhaust fan. the way my sytem is set up, it won't do any good, but if it were an intake fan it would. i need one that's an intake..

The 3.5" and 5.25" bay coolers are exhaust only. I have a 5.25" bay cooler in mine, and it does blow on my leg a bit, but it moves A LOT of air and is really quiet. I didn't do a lot of exact readings, but it dropped my case temp at least 3C, probably more. you could just flip the fan you want behind blowing out, and have it blowing air towards the bay cooler. plus you can just stick your hand infront of it and get a rough temperature reading without having to use probes or MBM!

You would just have to open the exhaust fan casing, then detach the fan from it's axle and flip the fan over to reverse the air flow. Some are easier than others (e.g., slot fans) to do this.

hm... most of the manufactured/retail hd and bay cooler use pretty weak fans and aren't very optimal for performance because they are designed to look good too... the best way is to get a few extra 5.25" drive covers and buy the fans you want, then just drill a few holes to attach them and there ya go! custom hd/bay coolers, this way you can ensure intake/exhaust and there are many choices to choose from regarding cfm and dba levels... if you want a clearer idea, check out (virtualhideout.net) they have great case moding guides...

I have a 5.25 Bay cooler that houses two 90mm fans. It's very quiet, and I picked it up for $20 form Viking computers. I'm pretty sure 3dcool.com has em. They work great!
