Any ideas on how to get full speed with Ghost 2003?
I see that you did what I do with USB 2.0(look inside harddrives as folders/files ) ..not an expert on anything but I think Ghost would work better on your regular internal IDE.

Seems like a good deal. The one I really want, however, is either this Bytecc or this Macally. For one, I like the way they look, and two they're a bit smaller for me to carry in my overstuffed bag.

Anyone here have any experience with them or heard anything about them?

I definitely want to order one but I really don't know which one to get.. Anyone from this thread ordered one yet? Just wondering about your results.. I trust you guys more than the random newegg review person.

Just go to newegg | external enclosure | generic
$30 usb 2.0
$40 firewire
$50 combo

I have four $40 firewire ones and had zero problems. I have two 250GBs and two 200GBs so the 137GB is not an issue anymore like they were with the older oxford chipsets. I really do recommend firewire over usb though.

thanks mrbass... I'll have to check that out..

I'm probably gonna get either the USB or a combo, since I have firewire at the house but none of the systems at the office have it, however they do have usb 2.0

Thanks.

USB 2.0 is also compatible with USB 1.1, which is slow for sure, but it might be convenient when you want to transfer some files off your friends older computers.

What problems did they have before with the Oxford chipsets?

I've had two for six months or so and my friend has six. Each of them has worked worked flawlessly with Firewire and USB 2.0.

So I picked up a similar enclosure at computer geeks for ~$30 (same ALI chipset), and it seemed to burn +R and -R just fine on my LiteOn 411s... however, with the dvd burner plugged into the enclosure, it didn't want to read some disks (would keep spinning the cd/dvd up and down, up and down). Weird that it burned fine, but wouldn't read some disks, including some +R dvd's it just finished burning. When I returned it to the case and a real IDE connection, the 411s worked fine

Based on posts to the other thread, I was uncertain about BYTECC compatability with a NForce2 MB. I went with this ADI enclosure ADI PM-525U2-PCB .

It uses a Cypress chip CY7C68300-56PVC .

Using a Maxtor 40GB 7200RPM drive with no problems on two different systems; Abit KT7A (KT133A MB with an add-on USB 2.0 card) and also an Asus A7N8X (NForce2 MB). Transfered large and small files, unpacted large compressed files, etc. Although, slower Sandra benchmark than when used internal (12,500 on USB vs. 18,500 internal) on the NForce PC.

I got mine at NewEgg but you may do better at Dealsonic.

Haven't tried with my Lite-On CD-RW or Sony DVD-RW yet but will post if anyone is interested.
