I've been thinking of starting a paid forum hosting service just so I can make up the cost of my dedicated server, so I started doing research on such services to see what kind of price I should charge, and found this:

http://www.siteground.com/phpbb-hosting.htm

For 5$ a month:

-2500GB of bandwith per month?! That's as much as a typical dedicated server package
-250GB of space? again thats about as much as a typical dedicated server package, mine is actually 80GB though I noticed I have a 120GB drive in there.
Not to mention cpanel and a free domain. How is this even possible for that price? That pretty much blew my idea out of the water. I was thinking of offering like 10GB of space and 5GB of bandwidth and basically just the forum preinstalled and ftp access, they'd provide their own domain which I'd add in my virtual hosts. Guess that aint going to happen if I want 5 bucks a month for it.

Yeah but one could just use it for the hosting, or heck, use it as an image host. Unless its one of those companies that claim they can provide so and so service but if each customer actually uses it they don't have the capacity. They're most likely on an unlimited bandwidth plan, and I'd love to see (and hear) the raid array on that server.

They have the same package with vBulletin and other forums as well. I almost feel like making a forum strictly for hosting files, thats a crap load of disk space and bandwidth for 5 bucks a month, if there's no catch.

You need to sign up for the 2 year contract to get the $5.95/month price. If you choose month to month, cost is $9.95 with set up fee of $24.95. Not sure if this is a good host..ask rossman

I've been using Siteground for about 5 month now.
Absolutely no problems. Quick support and 0% of work to install almost any script.

I am running phpBB as well as a few other scripts.

So far I've searched some reviews on them and it seems that if you're using to much CPU (on your shared PC) they will lock your site and then ask you to upgrade to a dedicated server (I think about $80/m).

If you have any other Q's ask away..., I "might" be able to answer them for you.

Some host will offer insane amounts of bandwidth and space knowing you will never use that much. They oversell the server. This happens with game host as well. The rent a box and sell 2 dedicated public games then add 5-10 private servers. You get lag with all the private servers get used at one time.

My netfirms hosting is expiring, so I need another cheap host for three domains, very light use. I may go back to dreamhost. Netfirms was OK, despite occasional email outage, which never seemed to last more than a few hours every couple of months.

Oh so basically their total disk space is less then [number of customers]*[allowed disk space]

Guess one could get away with that, just have to be prepared for if all customers do suddently decide to use all the resources they are allowed, or it would break the agreement.

But for that price who can complain?
