I think the non-daylight-savings winter months contribute more severely to SAD.

I know that I get depressed more often during the winter. As a result, I spend less time at home and am thus more social.

Yet I still agree with your statement and I'm not sure how that can be.

I think that's why they call it that.

I think there's some confusion here -- I was assuming that he meant Social Anxiety Disorder.

Edit: And lol, I meant Seasonal Affective Disorder. Sorry for the confusion.

I should clarify. If we didn't set our clocks back an hour in the fall -- if we left everything the way it is during the summer -- we'd have more mood-lifting sunlight, and thus I think depression due to living indoors/in darkness wouldn't be as common.

Or, since daylight savings time itself is artificial, if we didn't set our clocks forward in the spring people wouldn't have to adjust so abruptly to the change in daylight, which would probably be easier on everyone.

The earlier daylight helps me get out of bed in the morning. It sucks to wake up in the darkness.

yeah i hate the change. it would be ok if they just left it normal all year, but that big hour change throws my internal clock for a loop (pardon the pun)

why can't they just kill DLS, and most places start work at 07:00 instead of 08:00? (I prefer it to be light when I get home)

I hate the change too. I can't stand it being dark that early. I get off work, and it's dark. When I get home, it feels like the day is over, I don't feel like going anywhere.
