for the shipping different: i think you paid over $9 because you chose 2nd day delivery -default-, you have to change the shipping to ground delivery and you will get around 5 to 6 to anywhere in us. this seen to be pretty good price for this. i just don't know how/where to mount this thing to my van. oh well, i buy one anyway.

DO NOT HOOK UP A CAR BATTERY TO YOUR UPS!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes it will work. Yes it will kill you. SLA ( Sealed Lead Acid ) batteries, like in your UPS originally, are safe to use indoors. As the name implies, they are sealed. They won't normally vent while being charged. They will vent if they overheat, but that's a safety feature. Car batteries on the other hand aren't sealed. Even those maintenance free ones aren't sealed. Car batteries ( motorcycles too ) will vent gases when charging. These gases tend to be somewhat explosive. Doing this indoors is dangerous. DON'T DO IT.

Good point puppyfriend, BUT why not just put it out side and use an extension cord.

For those of you who want it inside there are all kinds of options
here

Hope some of this helped...

The pictuer of this shows that it has a base. Can you just set this on top of something like a cooler or do you have to mount it to something?

Yes, it has built in speakers and also a headphone jack. I do not know if it has a volume knob or not (it should).

Ok, so approximately what will be my cost to adapt this thing for a car use mp3 player? I'm sure some of you are considering or have done this and I just want to get a quick rundown of what is all needed. Don't include the price of any of the computer stuff (mobo/cpu/harddisk/video), as I have plenty of spare parts

I want to see if this can be done for much less than just buying a $300 CD receiver that plays MP3 discs. Otherwise it's not worth the effort, and home PC components aren't designed for the harsh Wisconsin winter weather.

Another question...How would I go about hooking up the sound card (?) to my Pioneer CD receiver? I don't have any standalone amps or anything like that.

Thanks!

frogster,

what your seeing in the picture as a base is actually a ps one, this lcd is designed to be attached to a ps1 and used that way.

But it would also be great for quite a few other uses!!

You need a 7.5V 2A car adapter - just buy a generic PSOne car adapter and it will work. Yes, there are a/v inputs on this. There's a good thread on HardForums discussing how to rip it apart and separate the LCD and controller.

Gotta love that Sig Lotust When is your last day here?

I am going to set this up in my truck as a DVD / game / computer screen. If you wish me to keep you apprized of how it is going, please PM me with your e-mail address, and I shall keep you up to date.

FM modulator. Don't goto to radio shack and get one of those POS ones they sell for portable cd players. Goto your local stereo shop, read: Mom and Pops and ask for an inline modulator that connects line with your antenna. Sound will be 1000% better. Should cost about $40 or so.

Hell, for the price, I just bought one. Don't really have a use for it, but I've always wanted one of these little LCD screens with inputs. Can anyone post some quality pictures of the screen and controls? Does it have much ghosting?

Anybody got a link so that I can get a simple dc wall power adapter cheap.

Also anybody know if I can convert/mod the power connections for this so that I can just plug it into a standard internal drive power cord (like my hard drive)?
