Whats with the racist Mexican Comments.
I happen to be married to very Beautiful Mexican Women and find your comments disgusting.

Maybe if you got to know a few instead of relying on what your dad says about them you would realize that they are some of the friendliest people around.

Why don't you also go take a look around your grocery store and think about why the cost of food is low in this country. You think its because of all the white people out in the fields slaving for 3 bucks an hour???

They work harder and for less money than half of the fat assed people in this country do, and they do it with pride.

Why don't you go spend 8 hours bent over picking strawberries for sh1t pay and see if you still feel the same way.

I grew up in Southern California and tried it one Saturday with my friends family when i was about 14, it aint no fun and it aint no joke

So lay off the racist comments or STFU.

I don't know where all these Wal-mart haters came from, but when I was in college I practically lived at Wal-mart. And hell, so did everyone else! I'd usually go grocery shopping around midnight (after all I didn't wake up until sometime in the afternoon), and the place was freakin' busy!

Their prices on food are the lowest prices around. I could get enough food to eat for a week for about $20.

I've also been to the shareholders convention in Arkansas (don't ask me why they have it there of all places). They actually have some celebrities up there, and it's a real friendly atmosphere. One time a lady complained to Sam that on her way there she stopped off to use the women's restroom at a Wal-mart, and it was really dirty. Sam called up that Wal-mart store manager and told him right there he'd better have that problem fixed.

Besides, if it weren't for Wal-mart those old people in your community wouldn't be greeting you at the entrance to Wal-mart, they'd be on the streets begging you for a handout. Now isn't that a better alternative?

I dunno if you guys are joking or not, but to me Walmart is greeeaatt!!! Good price, provide jobs for older people, etc. I love their return policy too (give me confidence). My digicam was from Walmart at 50% retail price (Thanks WM!)

Comment about the smelly Mexican guys: commOdog is right - it's better not to say this. It doesn't represent all Mexican people and might be inconsiderate for some people eventhough you don't mean that.

Cheers,

Wal-Mart is great, all you naysayers are antagonists.

Some of the more urban Wal-Marts suck because of the lousy clientele and workers, but find yourself a good rural Wal-Mart and it's all wonderful. Merchandise is in stock and priced right, employees seem happy and the checkouts have short lines. All the stores have a logical layout that makes finding things easy. I really don't have many qualms with Wal-Mart, except for some of their "urban" stores which are tainted by urban influences.

I love Wal-Mart. Everytime I am feeling kind of down about life I go to Wal-Mart and just walk around and look at other people shopping there. Always come out feeling great about myself.

They do have a pretty awesome return policy. Although they better, I worked there for a few months back in high school and one of my jobs was, no kidding, taking broken returns and glueing them back together to put back up on the shelf.

The deal, personally, I don't like the films offered. But given a chance to rant about wal-mart, I've got to put in some input:

<RANT>

To say nothing of the enjoyability of the shopping experience, I made a personal decision to not shop at Wal-mart/Sam's club primarily because of their labor policies. They are a union busting organization, many unions nationwide have "Don't shop at Wal-mart" campaigns going on. They try to keep workers from working enough to earn benifits, and there have been significant and occasionally substatiated claims of sexual/racial discrimination in their hiring and promotions. It is a surprise that the newest Wal-mart tv ads have a number of "associates" talking up how great it is to work there?
Additionally, the way Wal-mart destroys small towns is loathsome. Dozens (hundreds?) of small and medium sized towns with a significant commercial center (downtown) have been effectively shut down when a Wal-mart moves in. This hurts the town in several ways, since most of the money spent at Bob's hardware or Melissa's gift shop would be deposited in local financial instituions, generating capital for investment, whereas Wal-mart takes the cash it makes and ships it back to corporate (with the exception of salaries and occasionally property taxes, but more on that in a minute). Further, Wal-mart can obviously undercut all the local stores, effectively shutting them down. This decreases the number of available jobs in town, and particularly the number of good jobs.
Wal-mart often is wooed into towns with promises of free land or tax-free land. Eventually the town realizes its mistake, but by then it is far too late.
Add to this the fact that of the major national retailers (Target, Walmart, K-Mart, etc.), Wal-Mart gives the least proportional to revenue OR profits to charities. A side note, last I read, Target was the highest.
Wal-mart also screws distributors, demanding better prices at the risk of not selling the items. Their enormous size gives them all the leverage in negotiations.
for more on these sorts of things, check out this book.

I would footnote this by mentioning that Wal-mart engages in BRILLIANT business practices. All the above and more have resulted in a ridiculously profitable and sucessful chain of stores. To the extent that awards are given for practicing good capitalism, they should be commended. I simply believe that corporations have a moral obligation to treat the populace better.

<< Oh, and here's some 2-packs for $15.88. Some slightly better titles, only worth if you like both movies.

I could see getting the Last Man Standing/Falling Down combo, those were both good.

Hmm, that's interesting, I bought two of those 2-packs for $14.88 on Wednesday, and I'm pretty sure they've been that cheap all the time.

i like the rural walmart where i used to live... the one in austin is ok, but the one back home was much better... i think the one in austin is a little worse because of the much high volume of traffic here.

Yeah... I also think Wal Mart bites. They wouldn't price match baby Formula - even though a Target 2 miles away had it $1.25 a can cheaper... I bought a printer for my mother-in-law last Christmas and the damn thing was USED - someone bought it, used all the ink, returned it and Wal-Mart put it back on the shelf as NEW! You can never find a parking place because the entire parking lot is filled with carts - EVEN AT TWO IN THE MORNING!

Need I continue?

Walmart Rulez.

Where else can you get "temp" furniture like plastic dressers and 20 dollar folding tables with stylish blue pleasure padding?

Also, where else can you return all of those crappy PS2 games you got for Xmas without receipt?

I can't believe anyone had the balls to put "Fair Game" in Dolby Digital 5.1

That's like pimping up your mom's old station wagon.

OK, got my name tag. Here are the codes on it:

WHITE=accident
BLUE=bomb
RED=fire
BLACK=weather
GREEN=hostage
ORANGE=chemical
CODE ADAM=missing child
BROWN=shooting situation

Those are the exact words on my name badge.

For the charity thing, Walmart gives tons to the Childrens Miracle network so Stores will matter from one town to the next and Walmarts used to be cool when Sam Walton was alive, not anymore too much. The return policy has to be one of the greatest and you cannot get fired for taking back something you should have not. Walmart is not exactly a union breaker, we just don't have them because we use the "Open door policy". You shouldn't need a union for $7/hour jobs. Benefits, at least walmart has benefits and gives some insurance to people who could not otherwise afford it.

Walmart is just a stepping stone for me as it gives me inspiration to study harder and do good in college.
Have a question about walmart, just ask. I could scan my nametag if you really wanna see it, it says SKIPPY and everyone calls me by that although my real name is Jeff and also I am a licensed operator for walmart for the forklift and pallet stacker

I'm not married to anyone, I don't know any Mexican women (beautiful or not), and I think the racist comments are disgusting, and have no place on AnandTech or anywhere.

I hate WalMart because...

1. They always have crap crammed down the aisles making it hard to walk through the store.

2. They always have long lines at the checkout because there are too few cashiers.

3. The place is usually a mess.

4. It reminds me of an indoor flea market.

I work at Wal-Mart as well and it really is not bad. During the few days before Christmas, the guy I work with who gives me a ride home wanted to stop in K-Mart because we had run out of a lot of toys, (this was like christmas eve morning), so we went to see what they had. Walking in, it made me appreciate how nice of a store Wal-Mart is. K-mart was a dirty, poorly lit small ass store. I hadn't been in there for a LONG time. I see why, now. I think our total Garden Center alone would comprise at least 30% of their whole store. The people I work with are nice, I get benefits, I own stock in the company, and I'm only 19. It isn't like I plan on making WalMart a career, so really it is not that bad. Yes, we get the more...ah...'eccentric' customers. Sometimes all out freaks. Yes, we get the nightly "condom call" in Health & Beauty. "What sizes do you guys have? Do you have extra large?"

Maybe it's because I work at a nicer store compared to some Wal-marts I dont know. I do know my store is 2nd in the region in total sales, and we're only like $30,000 back of the #1 store, but our store doesn't have grocery yet, theirs does. Once our grocery side opens in March, we'll blow everyone around us away.

For everyday things, you can't beat most of the prices. Clothes and stuff, well, I don't buy that kinda stuff from there... but, overall, its pretty nice. could be alot worse, could be k-mart.

btw, ive seen the display with these DVDs...none of em worth it.

That reason alone is enough to make me WANT to shop at Walmart. If Walmart is able to undercut the mom and pop stores than so be it... lower prices drives competition in a free market.

i like wal mart, it's great for college student. It's a lot nicer than kmart, hands down. I wouldn't buy clothing from wal mart, cept for socks or something, but stuff like toothpaste, shampoo, and etc, wal mart usually has the lowest price around. Since they restock them so often, you don't have to worry about buying a 5 years old toothpaste But one thing do suck in wal mart is that the line is ALWAYS LONG :| Target, on the other hand, has more checkouts and more cashiers.
