From the article:
Wrong, says Jef Van Royen, a senior scientist at the Diamond High Council, the official representative of the diamond industry in Belgium. "If people really love each other, then they give each other the real stone," he says, during an interview at council headquarters on the Hoveniersstraat in Antwerp. "It is not a symbol of eternal love if it is something that was created last week."
It's silly to think that giving diamonds to someone means you love them. Giving someone the family jewels should be the determining factor of that.

Interesting: If you note he is a scientist, but instead of arguing on the grounds of science (which he obviously cannot do since the new stones are seemingly perfect and indestinguishable from "real" diamonds) he argues based on emotion. This is as close to proof as possible to me that DeBeers and the whole diamond cartell will be history soon

Who cares about the consumer jewelry diamond market. This is a major technological advance!

The machines Gemesis uses are made in Russia.
OTOH, GE has been making industrial diamonds for years.
Your parents are minions of DeBeers?Originally posted by: gwlam12

And how much do you want to bet that this U.S. company, like so many others of a strategic nature, has already been infiltrated by Chinese government spies?Originally posted by: FreakyGuy
