CH DVD is the worst busniess I have ever dealt with period.
They are the only company I have ever filed a BBB complaint for.
I used to be a member and would deny the automatic mailing using their online response but they would send me the DVD anyway.
I e-mailed them multiple times to let them know the issue and they never fixed it.
Then, they had the gall to send me the little "we noticed your returning a lot of DVDs.......you can respond to the mailing by mail...etc...or online"!!!!
Right....I wish I could respond to the mailing online!
I immediately cancelled my membership in disgust :disgust: and they then sent me a bill for the remaining DVDs I needed to fill my membership!!!! :Q
That's when I filed w/ the BBB requesting that I not have to pay the bill and that CH fix their online repsonse issue.
CH would not waive the bill but "allowed" me to order my last selection at full price (which I had already been billed for) and never did resolve the online mailing response issue that was the source of all the problems.
Granted this was probably more than a year ago now - but unles they have greatly improved their site and service - buyer beware!

My CC was charged, but I never got a confirmation email.
On my wife's account the CC got charged, but the account is still "under review"

Is this the normal order of events? Or should I be getting ready to bounce some of these back?

ZakPC - I use online response, and usually dont have any problem. I got movies only twice that I didn't want over the pas year (not sure if I fogot to use the online response or it was a mistake on their end). But as suggested by the CHOUSE CR, I just sent the package back with "refused - return to sender" written on the box. And I got prompt refund in both cases. I guess YMMV with CH, but it is one of cheapest way to get started with dvd collections. And the 5 dvds for $25 is just awesome. Compared to all the pains most people go through with rebate submissions & rebate tracking and then depositing the check etc. for many other deals, CH only causes minor aggravation. But with little effort, CH problems/issues can be usually resolved.

I could see the preauth on my cc before I got my membership approved email. The charge showed up just today. I have read on DVDtalk that some people don't ever seem to get emails, the packages just show up. Wait a week, then call and ask a CSR for status would be my advice. I'd guess you will get your dvd's before the 20th.

Thanks for the advice.
I will do that...any idea of how to get ahold of a CSR? I have tried several numbers with no success. Or is this a better question directed to DVD Talk?

Thanks.

My impression is that you get an email confirmation if you place your order online, which is standard practice for online retailing. If you make your order over the phone you won't get an email confirmation, is my experience. I don't expect any email from them (I ordered by phone, since the website wasn't working for the code). I'm watching my CC online. Assuming I'm approved, the charge will show up and the package come to my door in another couple weeks.

Why should he remove it if it's wrong? And why did you copy it into your message, thereby making sure it will live on even if he does remove it? And, perhaps more important, why do you even care?

The poster posting about the code most likely didn't realize a new variation of the CY codes were found. Like someone said, him quoting you invalidated his whole point. Furthermore, he's most likely just post wh0ring. You know, where your post count is in direct inverse proportion to well.... fill in the blanks.

that was a mistake copying it, and anyway, it says in the rules no codes, this is why I said he should prob take it off. simple enough? i joined in 1999 if i was a post whore I would be a lifer like a lot of people around here.

Also, that code is wrong! go try it 2 of the characters are reversed! geez.

Thanks to all who posted here.

I got:
Lord of the Rings
Gladiator
Snatch
Pulp Fiction
Full Metal Jacket

Need to join again to get Good Fellas, Spidey Man, Res.Dogs, Lynard Skynard, and Legally Blonde (for the wife...plus Ali Larter is in that so how can you go wrong with her in a movie plus my wife will love me for "thinking of her"?)

By the way, I never entered any CC info...I guess they will bill me? I don't know what is going on here.

Sweet! I sent in two orders... I got order confirmations roughly an hour after each one. Here's what I got:

1 Black Hawk Down
1 The Green Mile
1 Forrest Gump
1 The Silence Of The Lambs
1 Dumb and Dumber

1 Shrek
1 Saving Private Ryan Special Ltd. Edition
1 A Beautiful Mind Awards Edition
1 Snatch
1 The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring

I was surprised I wasn't charged anything. But they bill me later, right? Just checking...

Ok, now I need some advice:

I told my friend up the street abotu the deal but he doesn't really want to bother. But he said if I gave him the LOTR DVD I could go ahead and do the deal at HIS address. Does anybody think that this is dangerous. Or is it safe if I use a) the same name with b) a different credit card and c) a different address?

That way I'll get 20 really good DVDs for 100 bucks!! :Q

Edit: Make that 19 for 100... forgot about my friend's demand.

Edit2: Also, I noticed that I got an error on the website when I tried to send in the second coupon code (namely, the blank list of 1-5 on the yellow bar on the right -- where your DVD selections show up after you click on them -- doesnt show up!). So I went and did it on my dad's computer and it worked fine. Anybody know what's up with that?

Ditto, I helped place orders for 2 accounts Saturday (wife and father), both had emails this morning saying membership approved. I'm still waiting for my first order to arrive but I'm just hoping it gets here by friday. Anybody know where they ship from? Or does it depend on area?

Beware. I talked to a CSR rep yesterday and she told me that the all the codes [the 4 we've been using] were invalid. CSR's get different info, so I'm not sure if she knew what she was talking about. But it does mean they are aware of all the Cyxd codes, so this deal might be on it's last legs.

On a side note, i did place another order on the website using the code and it still worked. But hurry!

I wouldn't assume that the CSRs know what day it is, let alone the internal workings of Columbia House.

It's not like they're giving away DVDs free here. All they need is one of us saps to forget to cancel and mail a card in, and they're going to charge you $29.95 plus shipping for Patch Adams.

When I cancel my membership through the website, is there anything else I need to do?

I'm _still_ waiting for CH to complete the FIRST order I made in November 2002 so I can cancel that account. Grr.
