Membership Cancellation > Confirmation
Your request to cancel your DVD Club Membership has been received. Your cancellation will be processed within the next 24 to 48 hours.

Please note that you will continue to be billed for any outstanding selections. Also, any mailings in process prior to the membership cancellation cannot be stopped. You do not need to respond to any subsequent member mailings you receive.

A confirmation email is being sent to you at xxxxxxx@xxx.com

Does this mean I have to send back the preferred selection card that came with my initial 5 pack dvds?

I always try to deny the director's selection online before I cancel my membership. As long as you have several days before it's time for them to ship it, I wouldn't worry about it. At least that's what I was told by the CSR.

Question for you all, I'm kind of confused about how people are getting their orders from a few days ago shipped already. I placed my order last week and I haven't gotten my account number email yet. I called customer support and the guy said it takes them 1 1/2 weeks just to get you into the computer. What is the real storY?

I didn't have an option to enter my CC on the website when I ordered, could that be why? Was there some option that I needed to click in order to pay for these now?

I don't understand all these different stories circulating....the fact that the website has gradually become more and more broken when you try and take advantage of this deal leads me to believe something is fishy....

Afrochops,

I believe that your idea about not entering your CC is correct. I have placed four orders...two for each address I have. I have already been shipped the two orders which I paid for up front. The other two orders did not give me the option of paying up front, I got confirmation emails, but when I log in @ the website it says "application still being processed".

FYI, I went back to the go.columbiahouse.com site today with IE (I normally use phoenix). To my utter glee I was able to place an order for 5 more dvd's using my CC this time. So the code still works there if you are using IE as your browser....When I tried using phoenix it kept screaming that i needed to enter my CC but there was no place to enter it.

Hmm, everytime I enter the code, the page loads except for a "picture", which I guess is the order box, from adfarm.mediaplex.com. No matter how long I wait, it won't finish loading, so I never get the order box.

Still working at the red site, not at the blue site. Cancelled my previous two memberships after I got the 5 DVDs from each (total of 10). Just signed up again at the red site with a new code from that DVD forum mentioned earlier in this thread. red site addy might have changed. http://go.columbiahouse.com <---red site. Last two orders I made, I placed one through the red site and one through the blue site. The blue site I got confirmation within a few hours. The red site took about a week for confirmation and the DVDs showed up about 2 days afterwards. The blue site took about 4 days after confirmation. Cancelled both over the internet. Best DVD deal ever.

Warning: word on the street says that if you cancel and sign up for accounts again, you may get blacklisted. If that doesn't matter to you, then don't worry about it

Lol, blacklisted by Columbia House. That's a blessing, not an unfortunate thing at all.

Okay maybe I'm just missing what the deal is here.

Less to Buy Later!
Take a 6th movie now for $14.95 (plus $1.99 shipping and processing)and you need only buy 3 more movies instead of 4 in the next 2 years.

This is what it's telling me right before I start to sign up.
This is what my order looks like...

EDIT
Okay now I think I get it, it must not be taking my coupon code...doh!@
total selections 5
Subtotal $2.45
Shipping & Processing $9.95
Total $12.39

That is not the offer the rest of us were ordering under. You might be required to buy several more dvds from them at that price. The 5 dvds for $25 codes had no additional requirements, which made them a great deal. The codes only work on the red website now, look up a couple posts for the link. Make sure you put in the code right away...

Blacklisted meaning, of course, that your address and credit card number linked to the offending account may not be eligible for future promotions.

I just called CH to place an order and was told the offer's no longer valid, for what that's worth.

Blacklisted?!?!

I'm not sure why you all think Columbia House loses money on these deals. I assure you, they do not.

I've had probably two dozen memberships with them. I certainly haven't been blacklisted. In fact, judging from their telemarking and direct mail efforts to advertise to me, I'd say I'm their favorite customer.

Don't worry about signing up for this deal. Turns out they WANT people to do it.

Riiiight.... That's why they removed the codes, because they want people to sign up. I love that logic.

They probably did some retention analysis that shows x% of people retain their membership despite completing the commitment, and felt they could ultimately profit by boosting membership via a low priced offering. Do they lose? I can't answer that, but I can tell you that their analysis will prove incorrect as they didn't anticipate the deal hunting leech effect, where they get zero value add from their new members because they turn around and cancel immediately. This combined with the multiple membership but single household people on this particular deal...

Yea, and all those internet companies didn't really go bankrupt, they just didn't want to pay taxes on the enormous profits they had by giving all the stuff away at 75% off of MSRP like CH is doing. Companies do from time to time run specials even below cost to get their presence know by the best way possible (customer word of mouth). sometimes it's cheaper than all the advertising costs and they build a great mailing list in the process. You can't tell me that CH is making money charging $25 shipped for 5 DVDs and all the packaging. Add to that some returns shipped both ways again for free.

Bummer that the codes are dead, was looking forward to another 5 DVDs after cancelling my 1st account tonight.
