Those first scenes are truly heart-wrenching. I haven't cried at a movie since Optimus Prime died in the original transformers movie (the cartoon one), and this movie had me damn close.

Yeah, the montage at the beginning showing the old guy's life is absolutely amazing. I was sitting in the theater with my 4 year old feeling all emotional about that sequence, and then realized how Up really isn't much of a kid's movie.

Up is an amazing movie from an amazing movie studio.

They seem to be able to take concepts that should work as a movie (A rat is a chef, an old man and an asian boy scout buddy movie, a robot movie with no dialogue for 30 minutes, etc..) and turn them into masterpieces.

I think it's not easily comparable to their previous stuff. It's got a significantly more mature story line. While there's plenty that kids will enjoy the main story is something that I'm not sure that affects younger kids nearly as much as it will teenagers and adults.

Toy Story 1 and 2. I'd even put Wall-E above it (albeit barely), but maybe that's just because I'm a sci-fi geek.

Up is a great movie with a more mature beginning and a great fun ride for the rest of the movie.
It's already one of my favorites.
