This was posted several months ago.....I did it and it works great! You get 5% back as a credit to your monthly statement for all gas purchases made at the pump. No annual fees or other gimmicks. You have to be a AAA member but you don't have to be in Southern California or a member of AAA of Southern California. I'm getting about $11-$13 credit off my VISA bill every month just by using this card.

link: .AAA 5% gas rebate offer

I use it only for gas purchases, and use my 1% cash rebate card for everything else. I think other AAA regions offer this too. Northern Cal doesn't but you can get it from Southern Cal.

Wow, you spend $260/month on gas? You must drive A LOT!

the shell mastercard also offers this, although only at shell stations obviously. however, its the best gas available so itd be a good idea to use it anyway. 1% back on all other purchases (including other gas stations)

Really. I always thought Chevron was the best.

I live in Eastern Contra Costa County -- in the midst of 4 oil refineries. You can watch the gasoline tanker trucks pull into the Shell refinery all day long, all fill up at the same piping station. Some are Shell trucks, most are just other carriers carrying the same gas to my local cheapo station.

The nice thing about the AAA card is that is works at any pay at the pump for any station or brand. you save 10 cents per gallon on a $2.00 gallon of gas!

Don't know for sure that you must be a AAA member. When I applied I had to put my AAA membership number in on the form. Apparently from previous posts you dont need to be a member.

chevron is good, as is marathon- none of the three use any thinners as most do. however, shell is best as they have advanced detergents and other good stuff to keep your engine clean. and clean=good

Seems like the Perfectcard is a better deal overall. You get 3% back on gas (6% first three months) and 1% back on everything else. I suppose if you are only using the AAA card for gas then it is better, but for all around card the Perfectcard tops it.

Anyone else have a better card out there?

Just a warning...I got the perfect card and one thing they dont mention is if you use the card in any foreign country, there is an foreign exchange fee that they will charge you for that month. I dont believe my CitCard does this.

The international exchange fee actually is disclosed... but I had not noticed it. If you do a lot of foreign travel this is an important thing to notice. Thanks!

For those thinking that you don't need to be a member of AAA club, you guys need to read the fine print. Here's the copy and pasted fine print:

§ This 5% Gas Rebate Program (the "Program") is open to select members of AAA who participate in the AAA Gas Rebate credit card program that is issued and administered by MBNA America Bank, N.A. ("MBNA").

Now, I'm not saying that you don't have to be a member of AAA club, but I'm going by the fine print that you must be a member of AAA club.

It would be nice if there was a 5% gas rebate card that isn't carrying the AAA club member requirement.

phlashphire, how did you get your credit card with 5% without being a AAA member? What is it called (I know you said you got the same card, but still, need to double check the exact name of it), and issued by what bank (same one maybe)? Maybe it can be found on the bank's website.

I tried searching on MBNA's website, but failed to come up with any results.

I don't have an AAA membership and I got this card about two months ago. The 5% off has been applied to my account every month and it's instant so it's not like a rebate that builds up. If I spend 10 bucks at the pump, I get 50 cents off. When I applied online I don't think I filled in the membership id part. I applied to the mid-atlantic one since I'm in Maryland. Here's where I applied I believe:

You have to swipe it at the pump to get the 5% back.

I have an ex-ARCO station near me (now called Alliance). They don't have scanners at the pump.
I don't get 5% back at this station since I have to go inside and give it to the teller. Something about the charge having to show up with a certain transaction code that you only get when you swipe at the pump.

FYI

It works here in Wisconsin too. I'm not aan AAA member and got the card with no problems. The card gets rejected at a few stations, but most accept it. Good deal.

I have a AAA membership and a Platinum VISA Debit Card, but I don't think this applies to me.

It seems like this credit card is indepdent of a AAA membership. Its a AAA credit card only and seems to operate independently of a membership.

Correct me If Im wrong...

Though they ask for AAA membership number upon application, it apparently doesnt matter if you are a AAA member or have a membership number.

I use the card only for gas, and use my 1% rebate card for all else. It makes for some interesting price mathematics though.....the AAA card only gets ya the 5% if you pay at the pump. If a station is 4% less but doesnt have pay at the pump I guess I would use my other card, but so far, I havent seen anything but ARCO that isnt pay at the pump anymore and ARCO isn't 4% cheaper ever around here. Works in California, Arizona, Nevada and Hawaii....thems the places I've used it. And the credit is monthly on each statement so you don't have to wait to cash in.

Hmm, if that's the case, has anybody tried this on the east coast and using it at Exxon gas stations? I currently have the ExxonMobil credit card that gives 3% cash back on gas, 1% everything else, and the rebates accrued are applied to each monthly bill, so basically no wait to receive the rebate until this many points or whatever like other credit cards do. So I'm guessing that this credit card is well worth it over my current credit card. Of course, I just have to find out if Speed Pass is able to link up with the VISA credit card if I get it. Cause I'm now lazy to whip out my credit card and press yes instead of just holding the speed pass right up to the gas pump and that's it. Hehehehehe.
