there is a 9.99 one which does not require a video card purchase. search for x-finity on the site.

I don't see where it says this on the rebate form linked from the outpost website...

Not sure about performance, but it looks real perty sit'n on my shelf

I've got 2 Ultra X-Connect PS' running 2 of my PCs and they are great. So hopefully this Ultra PS will also be good.

here's the onrebate claim page that says it

I'm using this exact kind of psu on my computer right now for 2 months now and have yet to experience problems except for the extra long cable.

edit: nm, looks like they fixed it.

So the only difference btwn the $10 and the $5 units is the color?

Just want to be 100% sure about the video card thing before I buy the $5 unit.

The X-Finity is the best PSU that Ultra offers. My understanding is the X-Finity PSUs are of the same quality as Topower PSUs. Which is pretty good, I would consider this PSU for any build that isn't running both Sli/crossfire and RAID at the same time.

"I don't trust Ultra after an Ultra X-Connect 500 W modular PSU fried my motherboard last year."

The X-Connect line isn't nearly as good as the X-Finity PSUs.

Hmm. If I put this on one credit card, and then pay that with anther credit card, the $5 will be all I ever pay. Very tempting thanks to MBNA...

Quick question: Using a 500w power supply, does that mean it's going to be at 500w whenever the computer is on? Or just at high load?

of course depends on the load... but also related on the efficiency of the PSU.

I have this X-Finity 500W currently on my system. The voltage goes up and down even at idle (using asus own software to see the voltage) But my Antec tp430 was straight line all the time. Besides that haven't have any problem.

I got this PSU a month or so back with a radioshack MIR that made this 25AR. Very pretty design, but efficiency isn't too great (max is around ~78% or so I remember). So far it hasn't fried anything under a full load in Oblivion, and I'm running an AM2 3500+, single X1800XT, 2 GB PC6400, 4 HD's (3 IDE, 1 SATA), and a bunch of other PCI/USB peripherals.

Also, for those of you that are wondering, there is neither active nor passive pfc on this PSU.

I have Antec true power 430W and I just ordered this one, so which one is better?

Why would you power a $1,000 pc with a $5 or $10 power supply? Seems kind of risky to me. Just pick up a P/S you know is going to be reliable instead of risking a hefty investment to save a couple of bucks.

until the recent advent of active PFC, most PSU's sold in the US had max efficiency in the 70%'s; even my 1 year-old Antec Neo 480 can't reach 80%. Only high-end units, such as Antec HE's or Thermaltake Toughpowerswith, are equipped with active PFC. So it's unrealistic to expect that in a $10 psu.
