Good find... i thought i read somewhere that -R's are more compatible with DVD players then +R's, any truth to this?

Newegg lists a 50 pack of Ridata DVD-R's (4x, however) for $33 here

yes they are, and you have to modify your booktype of +R to -R to be more compatible by use of your dvd burner utility such as liteon

I've found that my DVD+R or -R work just as well for me on most of my different types of players... They both work for my Xbox, and ps2, and in a few different DVD players...i prefer the +R, but, it really don't matter.

I thought it was a good deal on 8x media and also the rewriteable dvdrw's those are nice considering the DVDRW media is pretty expensive.

edit:
compatibility wise i don't think it should matter +R /-R unless your dvd player is very old (estimating 4-5 years old) it should play.

DVD+R and DVD+RW
DVD+R/W has some "better" features than DVD-R/W such as lossless linking and both CAV and CLV writing.
DVD+R is a non-rewritable format and it is compatible with about 88% of all DVD Players and most DVD-ROMs.
DVD+RW is a rewritable format and is compatible with about 79% of all DVD Players and most DVD-ROMs.
DVD+R/W supports single side 4.37 computer GB* DVDs(called DVD-5) and double side 8.75 computer GB* DVDs(called DVD-10).
These formats are supported by the DVD+RW Alliance.

with my 2510a and the stock firmware i'm only able to burn my existing 4x verbatim at 4x whereas it burns at 8x on my plextor 708a. So i'm looking for media that will definitely burn at 8x on my 2510a.

Can you get 8x DVD-/+RW media? Also have the 2510a and don't have any DVD-/+RW media yet. BTW, I'm curious to know if the 2510a can be set region free. Haven't set a region yet. TIA.

You might want to try one of the three firmware versions posted here for the 2510a. Post back your results!
