From what i hear, the PS2 is very difficult to code for. That is why they don't have very good games. I have put the playstation 2 and dreamcast side by side, and i really didn't see much of a difference. other than the dreamcast takes a small amount of time to load games faster. There are just so many reason why to buy a dreamcast than a playstation2.
1) incredible amount of quality, original and fun games. I haven't seen any game similar to Jet grind radio or crazy taxi. I mean i seen games that have had original ideas, but they weren't that fun.
2) Obviously the cost, I mean you could buy crazy taxi for 14.99 at fry's. Now try to find a playstation2 game that is just as fun and has those brilliant graphics for less than 30 bucks.
3) Sega has ports for up to 4 controllers. Playstation doesn't. What did they think, only two people in the house wants to play the game while the rest of the people like to watch the bright colors on the screen. Stupid design.
4) This is another reason that everyone knows but no one speaks about. You can actually play pirated games. Now i know probably 80 percent of the people in anandtech plays pirated games on your pc (which explains why no one really post deals for software on this board), so don't treat me like a criminal. You have a great system where you can play games and better yet, BACK UP. how many times have your games been scratched up to find that it won't work as well as it did before.
I'm not much of a gamer, and i probably would never have bought any games other than the two that i did buy at the biggening. But i don't mind renting the newest games and having lots of fun and seeing the brilliant graphics. it sure beats paying 300 bucks for a system that i have to wait 1 year so that they finaly come up with fun games.
