Better check again. That "Kikkomam" in your kitchen came from China.

So this thread had me hungry for Chinese. I go to the Chinese buffet, sit done and what do you suppose I see? A bottle of Kikkoman. I looked at the bottle and it said it was made in Wolworth, WI.

who buys chinese food anyway.

When I was in China it was hard to find fresh milk. Stores mostly had boxed chemical milk that can be kept at room temperature.
I drink UHT swiss milk, nothing chemical about it, it's a physical treatment.

If the cold storage chain isn't good it's not even worth to try.

Plus if you always drink UHT you get used to it, I prefer it to fresh.

You can't beat the comfort of having to haul liquids to a car only once every few months.

That's because Chinese don't drink milk. I only had goat cheese from a minority population in Yunnan.

China doesn't have many police officers so it's probably hard to actually catch these operations. They do have checkpoints on the roads though.

Remember that Asians and dairy usually don't work together as so many are lactose intolerant.

OK, that's enough of the stereotyping.

It's why they are so short because of weak bones.

The whole point of the TPP is to apply American standards, laws, and testing to Asian countries.
That was not the whole point but one thing that you're right about is applying America's broken copyright system to the rest of the world.

I loathe to generalize, but I could almost swear China is a country with nothing but a blatant disregard for intellectual property and authenticity. That American small businesses have to fight tooth and nail against these products just to avoid them from sullying their product's good name is a tragedy.

Seems here we have TOO many regulations, that make it very hard for someone to start a business. Just look at that whole fiasco where people got charged over selling baked goods on Facebook. But then on the other end of the spectrum, in China there is not enough regulations at all.

Though the real problem is that the regulations here only apply to people/small businesses here. As an entrepreneur you are riddled with all sorts of regulations, but imports or megacorporations don't need to follow those same regulations. See it all the time with electronics on Amazon/Ebay. Most of that stuff is straight from China and has zero ULC/CSA/ETL etc certification. Lot of clones etc too. So it's kinda scary to think what happens with food. Especially if you do buy something produced locally but you don't know where they sourced the ingredients.

The more trade agreements they make the more it pushes away local production too.

yummy lead chromate going right into the drinking water, for a double whammy of lead poisoning and hexavalent chromium poisoning:

Chinese Factory Fire Burns for Hours Because No One Can See the Smoke Through the Smog

Smog in the nation’s Zheijiang province prevented residents from noticing that a building was actively burning down. On Monday, a fire at a furniture factory in the province burned out of control for three full hours before anyone even noticed the smoke through the smog that regularly blankets the region.
According to China’s state news agency Xinhua:

“Because of the thick fog pervading the air at the time, the initial smoke and flames produced by the fire took an unexpected almost three hours to be discovered by nearby residents.”

China's polluted water breeding superbugs, extremely antibiotic resistant bacteria

some otherwise harmless bacteria are becoming drug-resistant, according to a study led by Yu Xin, a scientist at the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The Cuyahoga river in Ohio, having caught fire for the 13th time (since it was first reported in the late 19th century) in 1969.

The Ohio river also caught fire many times prior to regulations going into effect. "Organic waste discharges into the nation’s waterways declined by 98 percent as a result of the new regulations."

Meanwhile, in Indonesia today:

“Sun Bears kept in the Bandung Zoo are so emaciated and starving they eat their own feces,” the petition reads, adding that the animals be transferred to a “conservation or sanctuary where they can be taken care of.”

The bears beg for food as onlookers toss junk food at them in a macabre display. There is no apparent proper food or clean water for them in sight. When a bear was seen consuming its own dung officials refused to allow it to be seen, claiming it was being medicated.

Sounds like a good way to save money by getting your customers to feed the animals also for you.

To be fair the animals usually get actual food and water also.

I remember going to one where they had a pop machine type thing near the black bear cage where it dispensed some type of sugar water you could feed them though the cage holes and those things were so overweight because of it.

It's possible to be overweight and malnourished. Animals need more than sugar.

We typically think of malnourishment occurring only in individuals who do not have an adequate intake of calories or protein. However, overweight and obese individuals can also be malnourished due to deficits in other nutrients such as vitamins and minerals.
There is no protein in sugar or oil, regardless of vitamins. A bear certainly can't be healthy on sugar water.

And this is why the TPP is ridiculously bad, and I'm glad Trump came in as he will most likely abolish it before it comes into play. Not that China was part of it (I don't think so anyway) but one of the major premises behind the TPP was that a country could do crap like this, export it to us, and our regulations are not allowed to stop them. So if the TPP did pass you'd start seeing tons of stuff like this from overseas coming in, such as milk with hormones in it, or food with questionable fillers, products with no safety ratings etc.

But this stuff will continue regardless as governments seem to be in bed with china and make all sorts of trade agreements. Why is it that if I design and build something I can't sell it because it's not ULC/CSA certified, but China can sell all sorts of crap to us that's not safe at all and has zero certifications? It's a piss off really. Heck, people can't even bake stuff and sell it without getting arrested (unless you're a mega corporation or chain), but places like China can sell all sorts of questionable food to us. It's easier for overseas to sell to us than it is to sell to between ourselves. It's ridiculous.

Trumps cabinet appointment supports TPP, I believe.

I could be wrong but I doubt it.

Is another one of those "Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain" moves.
