50 Free albums from Xbox Music

*Edit: they have a new set of free albums up (couple of repeats from the original set). Kind of crappy selection this time around, but still some good ones.

Requires Windows 8, Windowsphone or Windows 10 preview.

Install the "Music Deals" app. Scroll down to "Holiday Freebies" and get downloading. They are DRM free 320 Kbps mp3.

You do need to have an xbox account, which really is the same as having the microsoft account. At least mine is.

I have an xbl account, however when I tried to install the Xbox Music app on my phone (arguably an android phone), it required me to start a subscription in order to use the app.

Mind you, my xbl account is not an xbl GOLD account, as I no longer have an xbox.

Doesn't work in android. You need to link to the albums from the Music Deals app in windows 8/10 or windowsphone.



Once you "buy" the album you download DRM free mp3 (and can upload to Google music). No subscription required unless you want to stream it to a mobile device through Xbox music.

I've never had anything xbox. I created this xbox account because I have a laptop with win 8 so I was able to link my MS account to xbox and then download that music app that the OP described above.

On top of this, there are many, many box sets that are selling for 1.99 each. Not sure how MS can sell these that cheap. Hopefully they are subsidizing these sets and paying the artists for them properly. Deals are only good for 5 more days.

What the hell MS? It suddenly went from 100 to 50 in the time it took me to install the software and update it and half the albums I wanted are now gone.

Edit: Bizarre, I searched for 2 of the albums that are no longer listed in the 50 and it said they are still free.

I wish they would put the music directly into my OneDrive music folder. I guess I'll have to put all this free Microsoft music into my free 25gb+ Microsoft cloud storage manually!
