Anyone remember the Mercata deals in late 2000?

Mercata 20% off
MSN 20% off
eBates 5% off
FREE SHIPPING

Dayum! I bought 3 pieces of nice luggage for $66, I liked the luggage so much that I bought another set a week later for my sister.

So far I've used it for 3 different trips and it's held up great.

My best Mercata deal was a Replay 3060 with all the discounts Rossman just mentioned PLUS a $100 rebate PLUS a $50 friends and family rebate...it was much cheaper than the competing Tivo.

Value America...remember those Teapots that got you more Value Dollars than you spent? What genius at work!

Hey RossMAN. For some reason your name sounds very familiar...I think I've seen your posts over at DVDTalk on numerous occasions back in the old days...
Ah, yes, those cheap DVDs...Although I don't have nearly as many DVDs as you, the average cost of my DVDs was around $7-$8 as well; DVDTalk was the bomb...

I bought one of those, what "$50 friends and family rebate" are you referring to? What were the qualifications? I only got 20% off Mercata, 20% off MSN, free shipping and $100 MIR.

I remember all of them. Hell - if you want really "old-school" - I was a broken Hitachi monitor child from the newly started Buy.com. I think the thread was on the old AT forums as well.

Oh yeah - wasn't there a test drive for a free copy of this?

I use to do BEENZ. I could earn a $10 FLOOZ in 7 min. I even figured out how I could stack several flooz account. then go tp BN.com order some DVDs with a $10 off $30 coupon. And guess what. I'd go through theBEENZ program and get more free beenz. Almost enough for another $10 flooz. It was endless.

Oh. Right. It did end:-(

Not to stop all the reminiscing or anything, but does anyone know if the rebate for LOTR will work with the Blockbuster deal?

To me it reads that you have to have a receipt for the 2-disk set dated Aug 6 or later. Does Blockbuster give a receipt when you pick up the DVD? Anyone who did the Shrek deal might know.

Then you have to buy the 4 (or however many)-disk set that comes out in Nov.

Then you have to send in the receipts and upcs from both.

Then you get $5 or $10 depending on which set you buy in Nov.

I don't think this will work with ones preordered from Best Buy or Electronics Boutique as your receipt will be before Aug 6.

snif...how come now that I actually have money to spend, all the good deals are gone? Remember how easy it used to be to rack up Amazon GCs? There was at least a couple surveys a day good for around $10, and there were all those sites that would pay you in Amazon GCs to listen to and rate music! Ah..the good old days.

I remember back in the good ol' mobshop/accompany days...I bought my Toshiba DVD player there which still works great, it was like $75 cheaper than anywhere else at the time. Also bought the Star Wars Ep. 1 video there for $6 and several cheap smartmedia cards....no wonder they went under!

I got more than couple cables (s-video, audio, PS/2) from onsale.com, using 10 off 10 coupon.

Also "bought" 8x4x32 CDRW rom for near $200 from amazon. Well, can you believe amazon is still there?

Accompany Motorola Walkie Talkies for 10 bucks was sweet.

Okay, how about this:

You guys remember the phrase: (Specific to AT)

"Staples is Suck"

Who was the original poster?

I believe it was the same person who started the "Gator is Spy" thread.

OK, here we go ... (Accompany was the correct answer, BTW) ...

The deal that started ALL of the madness ...

What does "WMC" mean, what was the vendor, ... AND ... what model?

-SUO, missed that deal

That reminds me, during the time rumors were circulating flooz would go under as alot of stores stopped taking them, I placed an order with JandR that night so I could use it up before I lost it. However my Flooz balance wouldn't cover the total so I bought some more flooz and my order went through. Flooz was shut down the very next morning! The weird thing is, my credit card was never charged for the flooz I bought that night. To bad I didn't purchase $1000 worth of it.

Ooog, gotta love Value America.

I got some Yamaha speakers and a sub for around $30, which still sell for over $100.

Whiney Monitor Children, coined either by Harvey or Red (can't remember which). The vender was buy.com and elicited a class action law suit which buy.com lost. It was a 19" Hitachi.

DING! DING! DING!

The Wounded Monitor Children are the very reason why we have a Hot Deals forum here today (so so the story goes in someone's mind). Too bad I didn't start paying attention to any of the deals until VA and Accompany were on their downfall.

But, I did manage to acquire:

17" KDS monitor
NEC laser printer
Toshiba stereo receiver with built-in DVD player
JBL 5.1 home theater speakers
Altec Lansing 4.1 computer speakers

(looks around for other deals specifically from VA and Accompany/Mobshop)
