Be careful guys if you have a faster burner. The old, old 16x Fujis will only burn at 24x while the newer Fujis, marked 24x or higher, will burn at 40x. Who knows what BB will ship to you? The Web site says 16x, so count on 24x burns unless they ship you the newer version. Even for $2 AR, I wouldn't want to chance getting stuck with more 24x discs. I have a 48x burner.

Oddly enough, if you buy it in-store it's $15-$10MIR. Online it's $12-$10MIR, with free shipping or in-store pickup. Buy it online, folks!

Okay, so I bought two 50-packs of Imation 40x at CompUSA Friday night. They were $2.99 after rebate. Now that I see this thread, I checked and they say "Made in Taiwan". Should I take them back and get these? Is there that big a difference? I never burned much before, so I don't know much about them. But I'm building a PC with a new TDK 40x, so I think I'll start going through them a lot more often now .
So does Imation = suck?

I picked up 2 spindles at B&M BB here in Buffalo.... they are 48X FujiFilm made in Japan but they don't have a screw top... are they still Taiyo Yudens? How can I check? Anyway for $5.90 after tax and rebate I get 100 48X cdrs... I won't complain either way.

Just went to my local BB in Tampa (Citrus Park), they only had one TY (screw top) left, so snatched that. The rest were all regular spindles, with the twist covers. Seems that is the case in a number of stores nationwide. It also did ring up $11.99 + tax. I wonder why the flyer mispriced it.

First of all, unless you have 2 home addresses you are having the rebates sent to, the rebate form specifically says: Limit of one rebate per household or address. If you've picked up 2 for the same rebate address, only one can receive rebate.
Secondly, to answer your question, my understanding is that if there is no screw top, they are not Taiyo Yudens. In addition the program thawolfman listed, you can also use Nero to check your CD. It's under Recorder->Medium Info then hold SHIFT while you hit refresh. You will see the brand (CMC Magnetics, Taiyo Yuden, etc.)
Just bc they don't have a screw top doesn't mean they are not Taiyo Yudens.if there is no screw top, they are not Taiyo Yudens.
