The Last Man On Earth is a hidden gem. 6.8 at the IMDB. That was the inspiration for one of my favorite movies The Omega Man which is the inspiration for 28 Days Later.

Dude, this rocks. Anything with Bela Lugosi or Vincent Price has serious potential. A lot of the pioneering early horror films are included in this....

Looking at it, it is 12 double sided DVD disks, so 2 movies per side, maybe 3+ hours a side. If it is single layer then probably Half D1, but double sided double layer would be really great.

To anyone that ordered one of these 50 movie sets: what's the quality like of the movies? I don't mean are they good movies but do they look OK? (do they look like they were made from old VHS copies of the movies or does it look like they used a good quality print of the original film to make the DVDs?)

I bought the mystery set and the quality is better than I ever saw on late night tv. It does not compair to current dvd releases but the quality is reasonable. If you are interested in 4 or 5 of the movies it is a great deal.

I got in on this deal cause i love old school b movie horror and these dvd are great (not some taped off tv vhs or original vhs) from an ad in some crappy catalog i get every month called "Heartland America" they have these selling for 30$ + s/h and it says "Each movie has been transfered from the original 1" masters with the AEC porcess providing significant improvement quality" whatever that means but the catalog has the MSR price at $199.99 i would kick someone in the face for paying that much but the movies look great!

deal seems at best warm to me. i enjoy classic movies, but many of these are pretty ancient, maybe nice when my father was a child. quite a few B grades. if i were channel surfing, i'd surf right by any one of them . . .

You are so right, Freddy vs. Jason is so much better... :disgust:

Well, I resisted as long as I could. I've seen a number of these being sold singularly for about $8. So I finally broke down and ordered the set.

Thanks for the post!

The Last Man On Earth is actually based on Richard Matheson's "I Am Legend" novel from 1954. The Omega Man was "inspired" by the book but had fewer similarities than TLMOE.

All in all, they're both fantastic films.

I purchased this and watched several. The quality varies. Some are quite good and some are not. One I watched, the picture was jittery. That's the only one that bothered me so far. Sound isn't always great but with these movies I just want to hear what they're saying. So far, I could always hear what they're saying.

I too was a fan of the Omega man and you can see the similarities to Last Man on Earth. Right to him passing time watching movies (though Charlton Heston watched Woodstock instead of home movies). Looks like George Romero stole his zombies from this movie too.

I loaded up the first film, Carnival of Souls, '62, set in Lawrence, Kansas, and was prepared to snigger and guffaw at it over popcorn and beer. It turned out to be astoundingly good -- after a sorta awkward start, it succeeds in getting moody/creepy, and the lead actress pulls together a good performance -- and probably made for about 25k. The people selling the collection are getting about three hours on a side, and so at times you get some pixelation and some haloing in shadows, but that's nothing. I'm glad films like this are themselves being brought back from the dead, they really deserve it.

Carnival of Souls is a classic. Theres a criterion version of the movie out there as well - but more expensive than this horror set.
Really, one of the creepiest movies ever made.

Quite possibly the greatest sci-fi movie of all time. And #89 on the IMDB if that matters to you. Not sure why its in the "Horror" collection, but a wonderful movie none-the-less. This movie has been released on a remastered dvd of its own, but with 49 other movies, I may have to bite on this deal. Thanks jokersmoker!

Carnival of Souls is one of the great classics from my childhood.
A well-done, chilling grade-B movie.

Also of note: Night of the Living Dead and House on Haunted Hill.
I bet there are more gems in this lot, many I don't even recognized by name.

Too bad this deal is sold out.

I ordered the Family Classics the first day this deal posted. When the Mystery Classics posted a few days later I meant to order it too, but was so busy I forgot. It still lists as in stock but when you try to add it to your cart it says it's out of stock and won't add it. I tried logging in and then it let me add it and check out. I hope I get this, my wife loves old mystery movies.
