CompUSA has the HP 50" 720 plasma HDTV for $1399.99 with no rebates here. SKU 339529. Today's ad says $1499.99 but online it shows as $1399.99 for delivery or for in-store pickup.

Thanks for the Heads up on this. I might have to go check it out tonight after dinner. The wife doesn't really like the 42" LCD we have in the family room right now (dark levels), so this might be the ticket. (and gives me the excuse to move the LCD into the play room 'for the kids'...yeah, that's the ticket)

If we use the pioneer 50" as the gold standard, then this model is a little dimmer and suffers from weaker clarity but color fidelity is about the same. Picture is still crisp and with adjustments the gap may close further. This is certainly better than Samsung's 50 inch plasma (which has horrible black levels) and JVC's and is on par with LG.

Well I went ahead and picked one up for delivery on Sunday. I figure I will test it out and if I dont like it, just return it. Also they price match plus 10% off the difference at Best Buy so I got it there for $1350. Plus they sent me a coupon for 3x rewards points so that was nice too.

Great deal on a name brand plasma, and it also has a built-in tuner, which is great for anyone still using analog cable, like me. I have a 50" plasma, and the screen burn-in is annoying, though.

Most people agree it's a rebadged LG, at least at one time. Of course this stuff can change, but I've read several places the last HP 50" plasmas were LG. They have rebadged Panny plamas in the past befor using LG.
