Ting now offers a GSM Sim card that uses T-Mobile.

If you use less than 5GB of Data on say there $30 pre-paid plan this might be a great way to save a little more.

Depending on how much you use of course....

You can get the Sim card and have the $50 be used as service credit too.

Please do not post referral links.

Seems like it's only for very light users. A Ting plan with a few minutes (0-100), some texts (101-1000), and the XL data plan (1GB-2GB) would already be $43/month.

Referral links are frowned upon...

I got it from third party deal site link deleted. Really? Aw crap if so....

If you're a Google Voice user and use Hangouts you can do Text messaging (MMS Picture included) and Calling over data. Doesn't use that much, depending on how much you talk.

You'd have to check on how much data you use in a Month on whether this will be a savings over other offerings. Like I said in this thread: http://forums.anandtech.com/showpost.php?p=37202439&postcount=3

This can be a value to some and not so to others. Like anything....

I've used Hangouts. Doesn't sound as good as a regular cell call. Texting with Hangouts isn't as handy as using the SMS/MMS app of your choice (like Textra).

But as you said, if you are a very light user, you can probably save a few bucks with this plan but I'd rather just spent the $30 and get 100 minutes, unlimited SMS, and 5GB of data. I can always use any leftover data for hotspot usage.

Great news on no longer requiring Sprint's awful service or difficult to resell phones.

But one caveat. Like the $30 plan, is T-Mobile native towers only. No roaming on AT&T in the boonies. Sprint may terrible everywhere, but at least it exists. T-Mob literally has no towers in most of Nebraska, Wyoming, Montana... The south isn't exactly awesome either.

I have 4 lines on T-Mobile family plan at the moment, with 2 extremely heavy users. So no Ting for me. Still, an option for the very light users on wifi most of the time.

I love ting, we have 5 lines (2 iPhones, a GSM GPS tracker for my bike, an iPad 4 and my hp elitebook 810 G2 with a mpcie GOBI lt8111 modem) and our monthly bill is around $80

The trick, obviously, is to use WiFi whenever possible: home, work, Starbucks, McDonald's, xfinity hotspots, etc.

Minutes and text are all very competitive, just keep data under a gig.

I'm not sure Ting is good for a single user, but for a family it is awesome. We have 4 lines, and pay about $70 per month for all 4 phones, with as much talk, texts, and data as we need. We typically use between 1-2GB of data per month. Keeping data low is easy - only watch Youtube on WiFi. That's about our only rule, and it's enough to keep data under 2GB. If you need 2-3 lines, it's great. They've always used the Sprint network in the past, but now can also use T-mobile. Sprint works well where we live - no complaints at all. I get a free AT&T phone from work (so am not on the Ting plan) but I can't say my AT&T coverage has been any better than my wife's Spring coverage here in Denver.
