I will tell you waht I got 150 tdks and 300 fujis fujis I thought would have been better, but the TDKS burned in 3:20 approx on my Plextor! SO TDK ARE BETTER THAN FUJI

Doesn't it depend on the particular disk, not the brand? Because not all Fujis or TDKs are made by the same manufacturer, right?

alot of the 74 min TDKs are now CMC Magnetics. However, these are 80 mins, so who knows.

I've been burning stuff since the day when 2x cdrws arrived. Can someone refresh me on why different dyes give you different burning times? I've never heard of this before.

Hmm.. I had no idea the dyes made a difference in burning time. It doesn't make too much sense... I thought the different dyes determined how long the data will 'last' (in years or something). Or a particular dye color is easier to read from... but who knows!

Not to bash you but is there any other info on this:

<< I will tell you waht I got 150 tdks and 300 fujis fujis I thought would have been better, but the TDKS burned in 3:20 approx on my Plextor! SO TDK ARE BETTER THAN FUJI >>

Exactly as I had thought, RONType1. Dyes usually mean how long the data will last on them. We are waiting to be enlightened on this idea of dye and speed

If anything in the difference in burn times, it would probably have to be because of the firmware or justlink software(or something similar) that determines the burn times, not the quality of a CD or its dye.

So in your mind saving 1 minute in burn time = better disc? I value quality and longevity of the burned disc more than time it takes to burn, myself.

CD quality can make a difference in some drives. I don't know about Plextors, but the Ricoh based drives (AOpen for example) that have Justburn will automatically (unless you turn it off) check the media quality and will adjust burn speeds accordingly. Other manufacturers may have similar firmware.

I use a lot of TDK and rarely have a problem. Other brand names are iffy. And no-name store brands are just a gamble.

I'd pay extra for TDK, and often do.

See what I wrote was not dealign with the dyes but burn times. TEH Fujis read as taiyo yuden in the plextor which is great. However if you multiply 300 *1 you save yourself 300+ min. And thats a lot of time.

I got the 50pk of 32x TDK's from FRY's that are Taiyo Yuden's. They were $19.99 before a $10 MIR. That equals to $9.99 plus tax for arguably the best CDR media available. Good luck. OH, the MIR says you can have 3 spindles per address. The rebate is valid until March 31st.

The 30 pack of TDKs I just picked up from Circuit City are the riteks. By the way, the 30 pack is only $1.99 after two rebates which go to Young America. ) Can't beat that!

How do you know the actual manufacturer of TDK, or any other brands? Is it shown in the CDs, box, or when we actually run it
at CD-RW drive?

Just a warning to those who ordered this (like me):

My packing slip AND online receipts all say "TDK 50-Pack 24x CDR Media" NOT 32x. I'm worried about the TDK rebate being rejected, since it explicitly states you have to buy the 50-pack of 32x CDR's... Ugh.
