Hot Post OP. BTW, yeah it depends on the application so the chimed 250GB hD isn't bad either, some pple only have 70 bucks to blow, so either way.. lets have some peace in here.

Alternately run the two 250GB in RAID 0.

I saw that deal at Fry's but I'll pass... still waiting on my CC company to get my money back from my last order of two 300GB Maxtors from Frys.com that showed up at my door as an empty box. I'm not the only one... see Reseller Ratings on Frys.com.

.28 per gig for a 250gb hard drive is just warm.
.28 per gig for a 500gb hard drive is just superHAWT!

It's not math, it's commoncense.

I'd rather have 2 of the 250's in RAID0

newegg has a 250 gig for 69.99 which is pretty much the same deal in terms of gig/$ ratio

500gb > 250gb

good one, are you an english teacher?

Nope, highschool junior.

And last thursday during the windstorm here in seattle my 160gb raid 0 array died, so I think ill pick up a 500gb to replace it

The data will be hard to replace though :brokenheart:

Also newegg has a Samsung 500 gig for $150 free shipping-

Outpost has tax and shipping for me, so newegg is cheaper.

I am planning to buy two of these to create a RAID 0 array for my PVR setup.
I will have to shell out $280 for this.
So still waiting.
My budget is strictly $200.

2 250 gb's in raid 0, or 3 250gb's in raid 0+1 is hotter IMO.

I'd only buy a 500g hd for storing movies and music from my pvr. I do need a large storage drive, but would you trust a maxtor drive without any redundancy? I wouldn't. And I don't.

Way too much fighting over 250 vs 500.

500 is a hot deal because as you get to that size in hard drives it usually becomes a higher price per gig ratio.

Peace Peace. =p

3 years. Keep the receipt to prove it because it _was_ a 1 year warranty but it was magically increased just recently.

For me 2x250gb in RAID0 seems like a nicer setup but space and heat/power consumption may be an issue.
that said, a 500gb hdd is tempting...

For people who have this drive does it run hot? I just got it from newegg and put it in an drive bay enclosure (coolermaster) with a heat sensor. Unfortunately it detects it at 95 Fahrenheit even when the drive is not in use. Im a little concerned because i want to move my OS onto the drives.
