Thanks, I have a full Klipsch surround setup but didn't have a subwoofer yet. Grabbed the RSW12 from Onecall. Using Shop.com, and a coupon, the total came out to $609 shipped. Great price imho for a subwoofer that normally sells for $1000+ and had an MSRP of $1200 before it was discontinued.

I have the RSW10 and this the definitely one of the best subwoofers out there.

Frankly for this kind of money I'd be looking at a Hsu VTF-2 Mk3.

Onecall is not an authorized dealer, so your warranty will not apply.

EDIT: I'll pass on all Chineese brands, I believe in US manufacturing.

Are you sure this is made in the USA?

I was under the impression that as far as speakers go, the Heritage collection and a few of the upper end reference models are made in the USA with the rest made in China.

AFAIK, the cabinets for HSU Research speakers and subwoofers are manufactured in China. HSU Research was named after its founder, Dr. Poh Hsu, a U.S. citizen.

The HSU speakers and subwoofers are designed and assembled in the USA. Many / most of the electronics are also manufactured in the USA.

It's very rare to find a speaker or subwoofer without at least some components sourced from China, particularly the pieces that do not require skilled labor. Klipsch is among the many vendors that uses parts from China.

As noted above, the Hsu VTF-2 Mk3 will exceed the Klipsch RSW-10 in performance for about $100 less. The VTF-3 Mk3 will decimate the Klipsch RSW-10 in performance for $50 more.

Yeah, I have one in my living room right now and it's awesome. That being said, the VTF-2 Mk3 seems like an even better deal to me at its introductory price. Frankly I suspect both are better than the RSW-10, but honestly I can't say I've done a comparison test.

Seriously,
what goes into this thing to justify the $600 price tag? Unless you're running a movie theater, I can't see the point. I bought a Home Entertainment system a few years back with a Klipsch surround setup, and that was only $300 (Mind you it was a Hot deal at that price). The subwoofer doesn't even need external power, and I've had to turn the sucker down because it's plenty darn powerful at even a quarter volume.

Is there something I'm missing with these $600 subwoofers, or are these basically audiophille territory?

This should make your room shake with a good sub without really being audible

Note: this could damage subs not designed to play material this low (sine sweep from 12hz to 24hz) if you crank the volume. This is true infrasonic stuff.

I wouldn't call any of these "audiophile" material. These are not in that league yet. These are more like better than average HT subs

You are fairly correct. Most lower end transducers are made in China. But you can still find some US made speakers. If I were given a choice between a two speakers one American based Company and one Chinese based Company, both with Chinese made parts and assembly; I would choose the American Brand, at least some of the money will comes back to support the US economy.

Hsu Research IS an American brand, founded by a US citizen living in the United States.

This has already been stated, but I'd like to reiterate, the HSU is far superior. Night and day difference. REL and Velodyne and potentially that Martin Logan (forgot the name, the 3x 8in woofers in the triangular array) are really the only things that would match up well against Hsu at a similar pricepoint.
