Bass module FTW!!!!

Sweet merciful crap - the bass module costs $2,000? Holy moly. I am all for laughing at Bose, but I didn't know they reached those kinds of price points. I would bet my life savings that my $479 Hsu STF-3 would kick the ass of a Bose "bass module" every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

that might be true, but the advertising budget of bose far exceeeds that of HSU. And, as we all know, advertising budget = excellent sounding speaker/sub

Ha Ha Ha I was just thinking this morning about what people will pay for a name

We also know...
$40 vacuum + massive advertising = Oreck
$30 clock radio + massive advertising = Bose
$22 shoe + massive advertising = Nike
$30K car + massive advertising = BMW

I have a dual SVS 20-39 subs and a 1000 watt amp for them. If you turn it up loud enough while watching the pod race in Episode I it feels like bugs are crawling on your head. Lol!

Wow a lot of nice subs in this thread. I'll have to mention the Klipsch to a friend of mine with a ref set.

I'm happy with my UFW-10.

Ok, here's a question: for roughly 5000 cu feet (about 10-11 foot ceiling, half wall in back, I just can't see the Hsu VTF-3 Mk3 filling the space with sound with a mere 400W. The RSW-12 might, it does push 50% more wattage and I've heard one of these, although the RSW-15 would be better from the last time I looked at subs a couple of years ago.

In reality, The bass can fade in the back portion of the room, my wife might even prefer that. I also don't want to go SVS w/ 1K W amp or w/ Carver - there is a budget after all. Any suggestions for a 20X24X11 foot room with a largely open rear into another 12X30 area? (yes, I know, absolutely horrid acoustically in theory, but it's actually not too terrible in practice)

If you have suggestions for front/center combination, that'll be appreciated as well. I have Niles 6.5 HD in-ceiling speakers for the surrounds which are staying, all driven by a Denon 3803 about 100+W /channel.

I have a complete 7.1 channel Klipsch setup and the one piece that I think is lacking is the sub.

Mine is a 15" 800w KSW from a while back (when they still used paper cones) and I can tell you that it simply doesn't compare to other high-end brands like Velodyne.

Although this is a good deal on this particular sub, I honestly recommend getting something better. You'll spend more, but you're less likely to regret it later.
