$500-range Haswell laptops - when?

Any idea when to expect cheap, $500-range, Haswell laptops? Things based around i5, like the 4300M or 4200M.

You should start seeing them trickling in from various retailers over the next few weeks on. I don't think you will see any major variety for at least a month or two. The gaming versions are already out as I just purchased on over the weekend.

Gaming ones are more expensive, I'm thinking the more basic ones. I'm not waiting for a variety, really. Just a CPU update on the basic models that otherwise carry on unchanged through multiple CPU generations. Well, at least as far as I'm able to tell. Low-end notebook model numbers are next to impossible to follow.

While I wouldn't mind a screen better than a lousy TN that starts shifting the moment you move your head a mm, something that apparently any $250 tablet is better at, I'm not holding my breath.

I started to wonder if the i5 4xxxM were released yet at all. No site said explicitly that they were, but now CPU World says that they are out.

I mean, the integrated HD4600 won't be faster than the 7660G or the faster Richland integrated GPU. Why do you need the Haswell?

A faster GPU would be nice (I haven't really compared the AMDs in this regard, but I suppose it should be?), but my primary concerns are CPU performance and battery time.

The non-U and Y series dual cores aren't out yet. They aren't even available at ark.intel.com. Going by rumors we should see them in Q4.

Where did you see that? Disappointing if that's the case. Too bad no hardware site bothers stating things clearly.

There's also HP, and I suppose others. But they aren't i5s, and they include other better specced parts, so it's much more expensive.

I'm starting to consider AMD's Richland, but there's 0 availability around here, and since AMD is rarer in general, prices seem higher anyway.

Sheh: By Broadwell, the regular dual cores will entirely disappear. So Haswell starts the transition phase.

It's like how there was almost no devices based on 25W chips, and gone by Ivy Bridge.
